Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). I'm npt sure if this will work as I have yet to try this for my self. But according to others who have had this problem pulling lens out while camera is off and then restarting camera works. If this does work please notify. Or just tell me what happens when this is done

The SAME thing is happening to mine as of yesterday.. I uploaded pics no problem yesterday morning, took more pics last night and then when I went to plug it in.. says card error. Tried other cards in my camera, its saying the same AND this card will no longer work in other readers.. Heeelp please!

If you can't return the camera for service, my advice would be to close the battery compartment with tape. Not pretty but better than buying a new camera, I've done it a few times on old cameras and apart from cosmetics, works fine. Just make sure to use enough tape so the batteries won't fly out when using it.
