Hey Kenton Plett,Directed from another answer:You have a bad starter bendix. It is a one way clutch wit a gear on it that moves on the starter armature to engage the flywheel. It is sliding over and engaging the flywheel the way it is supposed to, except, under load it is slipping. Since it is bad you will need to replace it. If it comes off with the starter it should be easy. If it is inside the engine, you may have to pull the engine to take off the cover and replace it. Good Luck

disconnect battery , remove red and black wires on starterthen remove the top 2 bolts on starter and 1 or 2 bolts at bottom , pending which model but it should come off now !

clean your carbs etc !! fit a water fuel seperator inline from tank to stop problems !

have you got water in the crankcase ? remove plugs and crank and see if water comes out ! if yes then you must keep cranking till all water out the clean plugs and get running asap !

does fuel pump bolt to side of engine and take pulse pressure to feed carb ? diaphram could be leaking etc !

compressions ok ? 100psi min !

do you mean as soon as you press the starter or connect the battery the starter motor turns and wont stop till you disconnect the battery ? if yes then starter solinoide stuck ! replace !!

clean carbs and fuel pump and check diaphrams are soft !

was it the pee tail water that stopped ? try blowing compressed air back in it ! is the exhaust plate on the side of engine getting very hot ? have you checked the thermostate opens in a cup of hot water ?

could be rings or valve seals etc ! strip b4 it fails !

what hp engine ? 2 or 4 stroke ?

plugs out and crank the water out , put your finger over plug holes as you do this and will help purge water from crank ! Plug caps away from plug holes !! have a battery jump pack ready as will take a while ! if plugs ok then clean with carb/brake cleaner once most water is out then put a sqwert of fuel in each cyl then plugs in hand tight and get cracking coz if left too long crank etc already rusting ! DONT STOP till you got it running as you will have to clean the plugs several times ! Try all three plugs at first then if struggling two plugs and one out with rag over hole and plug cap away safe from plug hole so not to spark fuel !!!! NO SMOKING !!! Fire extinguisher handy !!! once running ON ALL THREE CYL'S , not one or two as you can sieze the engine take to lake and give a good run and making sure all cyls working ! can do this while strapped to trailer in water as long water circulating !

put kill key on post and press starter for a sec and clocks show hours ! ; )

dirty connections or broken wires or clocks broke!

degrease engine when you got covers off then run in tub of water and look where its coming from !

fuel pump diaphrams could be hard ! compressions all over 100psi minimum pressure? carbs clean ?

if bolts on them are really tight then remove the engine ! heavy !

find your nearest yamaha dealer and take the engine ! or take pictures of engine and take regulator !
