Probably.  Most cameras give you a mark to which you pul out the film leader.  
If your cam is one of the power load/wind/rewind models then you must pull the leader right up to the mark
If is one of the older ones with an advance lever, then you can watch the rewind crank to see if it revolves when you wind on.  If it does not, then you have not engaged the film in the take-up spool properly.

If you go to http://www.pentaximaging.com/support/manuals-and-literature/ you can find the manual for your camera. From my experience the E on a Pentax camera means the film isn't loaded properly. Hope this helps.

On page 16 of the manual, it states that in addition to using DX film of ISO 100 to ISO 400:

1) Color negative film is recommended.
2) Non-DX film cannot be used - but then says if it is used, set the film to ISO 100.
3) ISO 400 film is recommended.

Page 25 and forward detail exposure Modes. This should be your next area of interest in the manual. If you are unable to to solve the problem at this point, there may be an issue with the aperture of the lens being stuck open - or the shutter remaining open for too long. Either way, it will probably need to be serviced professionally to get it working again. You might consider replacing this camera as repair costs may exceed the value of the camera.

Sounds like it's jammed. This is a job for a camera store to fix.

If this is a Pentax SLR type camera then it might be worth saving but id it's a point and shooter then personally in my opinion it's not worth the repair. If you managed to get the door open the batteries will have corroded all the connections and a repair would be a staggering price. Don't get that stuff on your hands face clothing cause it's an acid that is leaking out and has seized the door shut.

Try lifting up the film rewind knob and pull the back cover. Maybe the back cover is stuck with the old gummy light shield.

Format the card in the camera to restore the folders and prepare it for use in the camera.

I sure hope you're not actually doing this on a Pentax film camera...

If it's a 35mm film camera and you see nothing through the viewfinder, then as long as the lens cap has been removed, your camera has a locked up mirror.

You don't give any clues which exact model you have, but if it's one of the later electronic autofocus models with automatic film advance then the additional detail that the film isn't loading confirms that your camera simply has no power. Replace the batteries and all should be well.

If your camera does not have automatic film advance then you still almost certainly have flat batteries and just need to learn how to correctly load and wind the film.

The date usually only appears on the front. However, most retail photo labs (i.e. walmart) can add custom backprinting to your photos. You can usually only add one line of text for entire order and custom pricing would probably make this a little bit expensive. On that note, the date you have your film developed/printed is usually printed on the back of each print for free, as this is default setting for the lab's printer.
