if you look closely there is a very tiny hook that comes through the back of the needle. That is what catches the tread to pull it through the needle. Sometimes it will get bent to the side. Using a pin or needle, very carefully move it back to its centered position

1) USB stick may have more on it than machine memory can handle. Try using a 512 or smaller stick and only have embroidery designs on the the stick. The machine has to read everything on the stick to determine which are designs and which are not.
