Water Dispenser freezes

Our water dispenser freezes preventing us from being to getting water although the ice maker seems to be fine. We keep the freezer on the lowest setting but at least 2 or 3 times a week we have to turn it off completely to allow the water line to thaw out. Aside from being annoying this is the only complaint/problem we have. Any tips or advice on why this keeps happening? thanks

I have a 3 year old GE GSL25 refrigerator with the water/ice dispenser on the freezer door. Even when setting the freezer at 2 and turning the fridge's lower drawer to the warmer "cheese" setting, the water dispenser line would freeze every few weeks. If you have this problem, first verify that the water filter (back of the fridge) is not clogged and that water flows from the water line at the bottom left corner of the freezer door (disconnect and press water delivery dispenser-see owners manual).
I used the hair dryer recommendation to unfreeze the line by heating the flat area of the freezer door directly behind the water dispenser area (~10 min did it). The trick to keep if from freezing up again involved buying a cheap foam sleeping bag mattress (~1/3 inch or 1 cm thick) made of a polyurethane foam (pretty dense). I cut it to match the flat area of the freezer door behind the water dispenser and taped it to the door with packing tape. For the past 3 weeks (even with freezer at #4 setting), my water is flowing freely. Personally, I think this solves a product defect with insufficient insulation in the freezer door near the dispenser water line.

I fixed mine by leaving the light on the dispenser on. It took about 6 hrs, but the little heat from the light bulb was enough to defrost the water line.

GE side by side GSL25KGREBS

First my waterline stopped working, but I have great spring fed1.gif tap water so I ignored it (the icemaker still worked). Now, the ice & outside light won't work either and the fridge has started to click & the light inside flickers with the clicking, I noticed a fan in the freezer is also moving slowly to the clicking. It's still cold inside the freezer & fridge?! HELP?!
Comment by shannon4, posted on Mar 08, 2008 We tested the valve to find the red reads 183 & the blue reads nothing. So we'll go ahead and replace it. However, the ice dispenser still does not work? We assume this is whole other problem?!
Comment by shannon4, posted on Mar 08, 2008 How do you test the actuator? Thanks for all the help!
Comment by shannon4, posted on Mar 15, 2008 Ok, water inlet valve replaced-everything is the same. When we had the fridge pulled out we noticed the clicking came from the area of the computer1.gif panel. We also noticed the fan at the bottom stop in repitition with the clicking-not just the freezer evaporator fan. When we push on anything in the dispenser area it clicks twice in back. Is there anything else we can check?!

Same problem here. Called local service tech and he said it was a common manufacturer defect with some GE refrigerators. I called GE and they don't have a recall or any formal documentation available to Cust. support people but found this on another site. A Replacement Program my GE, letter to GE service techs regarding problem. My model was listed and i am ready when the GE tech comes tomorrow that he knows about it.

Freezer Fan Revving up and down / creating 'howling'

I have had my GE Side by Side (GSL25JFPHBS - AH244410) for just under 3 years. Tonight I heard a 'fan revving' and howling coming from the freezer side. I opened the door and observed that the fan just below the ice maker was revving up and down very quickly. I have saw on 'Fixya' that other models have had the same issue. I did call GE 'Answer Center' and she claimed she never heard of the problem. After the call, I went back down stairs and the fan was now on 'full speed' with no howling audible. I'm guessing since I had the doors open for so long trying to figure out the issue, it caused the temp to rise.
Is there any recalls or any other information that would keep me from spending $$ on a repair visit?
Thanks for your help!

The piece or "brain" that controls the fan can sometimes become confused. If it gets clogged with debris, or starts to malfunction, it may have the fan behave in weird ways.

GE MODEL GSH25JSRF-SS PROBLEM HELP PLEASE

fridge started to make a clicking sound, removed rear panel and noticed fan was not spinning, clicking was coming from the circuit board also located in rear, I unpluged the quick connector to the fan and clicking stopped and compressor started , do I need a fan or a circuit board,

I had the same problem back in March. First the water and ice dispensers stopped working, then the clicking started and the compressor wouldn't turn on. I replaced the circuit board and everything started working again, until today. This is a very common problem with the circuit board on these refrigerators. Do a search for "GE circuit board" and you'll see what I mean. GE issued a service bulletin to its technicians that this service should be provided free of charge, and anyone who already paid to have the circuit board replaced will be reimbursed. I wish I would've known about it 6 months ago. I will be calling GE Consumer Affairs on Monday to get this resolved.

Whisling noise coming out of inside the refrigerator. Louder when freezer door is open. maybe ice maker area?

I have a whistling noise coming out of the inside of my GE side by side refrigerator. It seems to be coming from around the ice maker.

The whistling is caused by the air circulating fan located just behind the light. It is easily accessed by removing the light cover and the two small hex screws above the light. To stop the whistling I simply turned the freezer off and pulled the fan cover out slightly to reveal the fan blades. I then pushed the blades down, toward the bottom of the until the blades stopped and i could feel the shaft slightly protruding from the top of the blades. Repositioning the blade has stopped the incessant whistling. Hope this helps!

I have a GE Model #GSL25JFPABS fridge. My freezer

I have a GE Model #GSL25JFPABS fridge. My freezer has been frosting up for quite some time with the ice cubes melting a bit and freezing together.
Recently the fridge side has also been warming once in a while as well.
We had our kitchen floor replace recently and there is a considerable amount of dust on and around the condenser unit.
Is this my problem? If so do I just clean it from behind with a vacuum hose or do I have to disassemble to get it completely clean.
Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Is the freezer cold enough? Should be close to 10 degrees.
Is there water or ice in the ice mold? If not put water in it and see if it dumps the ice after it’s frozen. If there is ice, lift the cut off arm and let it drop to see if it will start.
If it does dump the ice but don’t refill with water.
Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.
How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If the light and ice dispenser on the front panel works and If your fridge is 4 years old or older, the insulation in the freezer door has most likely deteriorated and the water in the tube feeding the water dispenser has probably frozen. Open the freezer door, put a blanket over the food to keep it from defrosting, and use a blow dryer to defrost the door. Blow the hot air on the flat panel inside the door (the backside of the water dispenser). Close the door about every 5 minutes to check to see if the water works. Once the water begins to flow, you have successfully defrosted the ice in the tube. Defrosting the door works for about 12 hours until it freezes again. To solve this problem, I placed a 10" weedeater line up thorugh the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8 of an inch sticking out. When the line freezes again, pull out the weedeater line, dispense water to free the ice, and then reinsert the weadeater line. I keep the line in all the time...it works great! If the light or ice dispenser do not work, the problem may be *********** board.
