I have a lakewood heater and there is a diode in
Take that circuit board to an electronics store. A REAL electronics store. The local one around my home town is called L and N electronics. I know that may not be much help, but I've learned by changing board components, that not all parts have multiple applications. I've repaired my own studio/stage speakers and amps, and those diodes and resistors/capacitors are stereo components specifically made for that application. I normally would have to replace 2-5 different components in that circuit also, not just the 1 obvious damaged part. Not sure where you are, so it's hard to point you in the right direction.

Lakewood heater model 6500 the top high low knob
you can still use this heater, but continue to monitor its operation. If it gets hot enough to start smoking again, discontinue use and purchase a new one. Your safety means EVERYTHING!!!!!!
