Nancy,Can you see the inside portion of the latch? If so, you might try getting some quick set plastic epoxy. This will require some patients and a steady hand. Mix epoxy, apply to both ends, reattach and hold for a long time! Min 5 min's. Understand, if you cant do this with out getting epoxy on the surrounding parts of the door you shouldn't attempt this. You will end up gluing the latch in place- still wont work. Otherwise call a tech. But unless it is a built in over the stove microwave, it may be cheaper to get a new one than call for service! My charge to come do such a repair would be about $100 plus part. Is it worth it? If you need further help, reach me via phone at

The lock will not release after cleaning
This is GE's trouble shooting advise:
Range - Oven Door Won't Unlock After Self Clean
The Oven Door has been Locked Accidentally:
- If no food or utensils are in oven, put it
into a short self-clean cycle (1-2 hours).
-
If there is food in the oven, let the oven cool
to room temperature and try to unlatch the door.
-
With electronic ranges there is a small
chance that turning the circuit
breaker off for a few minutes and turning it back on can release
the door.
latch to the "off"
Note: Do
not force the latch at anytime!
Door Will Not Unlock After Cleaning:
On models with mechanical latches:
- Once the oven is cool after a self-clean cycle
(approximately 30-90 minutes), slide the latch over to the left.(Some
older models have a latch release button that must be pushed in while
sliding the latch over.)
Note: Some models with
oven Set and Temperature
knobs must have those knobs set in the Clean position
before the latch can be moved to the left. If your door won't unlock,
try turning those knobs back to Clean, then
slide the latch over.
If the above suggestions do
not work try the following to unlock your door:
- Disconnect power to range for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect power and see if door will unlatch.
- If door does not unlatch, and you do
have food in the oven, wait for oven to cool completely and try again.
If it still will not open you will need service.
- If door does not unlatch, and you do
not have food in the oven, set the oven up to clean for 1-2
hours.
- Wait approximately 30 minutes and try to unlock the door.
- If the door unlocks, the control has reset itself and there
should not be any other problems.
- If the door will not unlock or if you would like to schedule
a service appointment, please contact GE Consumer Service at
1-800-432-2737 or schedule a service appointment
on-line.
Note: Under no
circumstances should you ever force the door or latch open.
Oven Light Will Not Shut Off - GE Range Oven Model: PS968SP1SS
If you have already replaced the Hi-Amp Door Switch on your GE Range Oven (Model: PS968SP1SS), but the oven light still will not turn off, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
- Check the light switch: Ensure that the light switch is functioning properly. It is usually located near the oven door frame or control panel. Press the switch manually to see if the light turns on and off. If it is not working, you may need to replace the light switch.
- Inspect the light socket: Examine the light socket for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the socket appears to be damaged, you may need to replace it.
- Verify the wiring connections: Check the wiring connections between the light socket, the Hi-Amp Door Switch, and the main control board. Ensure that all connections are secure and properly connected. Loose or faulty wiring can cause the light to stay on.
- Test the main control board: As you suspect, a faulty main control board could also be the cause of the issue. You can try resetting the control board by turning off the power to the oven at the circuit breaker for a few minutes and then turning it back on. If the light still does not turn off, it may indicate a problem with the control board that requires replacement.
If you have performed these troubleshooting steps and the light still won't turn off, it would be advisable to contact GE customer support or a qualified technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose the problem more accurately and recommend the appropriate solution.
