How about boiling a small container of water and once it starts boiling. Just shut the unit off and let it sit and let the steam do the work for you. Might soften it enough to scrape it off.

It sounds just like the magnetron is bad, overheating and opening the thermostat. This is how it would work if that were the case.

One other thing is to be sure that the cooling fan is running and that you feel air flow.

You should check the air filter and grille, as well as the outside vent for any blockage.

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.

Dead appliance, power on wall outlet.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

If your appliance has absolutely no functions at all, remove it from the mains supply, remove the case and see where the mains lead goes in to the appliance and follow the cable until you find the main fuse.
ONLY USE THE SAME TYPE AND RATING OF FUSE TO REPLACE IT.
The usual cause of this fuse failure is the door switches are contaminated or sticking. Check the door switches before putting power back on to the appliance.
Hope this helps.

Hi, this is a problem with your door latch. This happens when you open the door the fan gets a pulse of power as you open the door. If one of the door switches is bad the fan may keep running or if there is a delay in the door switch latch due to mechanical failure (grease, dirty or just broken) the fan will also keep running. You need to replace the door switch and you can get it from this LINK..
As long as you don't fix the door switch problem, the oven will not turn or cook...

yes it does, open the door and on the inside edge of the control panel is a couple screws. take them out and you can open the panel the fuse is located behind the panel in the micro up near the top.

when you said the power went out ( did you mean to the micro or the complete hm . if only to micro it probably blew it internal fuse . they doo that . replace the fuse ( radio shack is a good place to get it .) but ck the door inter lock's as they may have caused the failure . ps buy more than one fuse / you may need more. **** ,,

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

You have to remove the door handle screw(s) and the door handle, then look for subtle clips that may be holding the outer door screen in place.

Some models have two screws holding the door handle, but some have only one. In that case, remove the screw, then you either lift or rotate the handle to free it.
