Setup of time and power
Here is what I have to say about that ... all in under 600 seconds.
UNPLUG THE DEVICE - remove the cabinet ... then ...
The first thing I recommend you check is the micro switches that are the door safety interlock switches. If you are like me, guilty of opening the door with the oven running, you have burned the tiny contacts to the point they can not tell the oven the door is closed. Forget what you know about the door, the oven relies on these switches to determine door status. If the switch is not closed, (oven thinks the door is open) the heat will not turn on. Check them with a volt/ohm meter. Get a replacement switches at your appliance service center or electronic parts store for about $10.00. Don't even bother to go to the discount place, they will not know what you are talking about.
You might have a problem with the high volt capacitor. However, I rarely recommend repacement of this device due to the danger involved. This device stores 25,000 volts and can kill. It is the silver can you will find inside. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are generally round and about 3 inches in height. Shorting them to ground with a screw driver may negate the danger but it may also damage the capacitor and/or oven. If the device is hot, expect a large, sharp crack when you short it out. Also expect to burn your screw driver. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ISULATED FROM THE SCREW DRIVER. You can have the cap tested generally at the place that services and sells such equipment. If they test it and it is bad, it is good manners to purchase the device from them, of course.
Others will tell you your trouble is the magnatron. Personally, of the many microwaves I have worked on as the neighborhood handy guy, I have never found a bad magnatron. This device is extremely robust. Furthermore, the magnetron is probably more $ than your oven is worth. It is also a big job to replace this device. If it turns out yours is bad (after you eliminate the switches and the cap as the problem) - your oven isn't working so you might as well give it a go. Remove the old and then determine if you want to go to the expense of purchasing a replacement and trouble of putting it back together again.
I hope this helps you ... thank you for your question @ FixYa.com
