Kenwood chef A701 has stopped working with a

Hi,

If the Kenwood Chef has Stopped Working with a Burning Smell, more often you need to Replace Motor.

You could buy the Motor from :-

http://www.kenwoodchefusedmixersandspares.co.uk/prod2.cfm?product=63260

Remove all the loose plastic bits and then the three screws which secure the bayonet fitting for the liquidizer . Then there are three Screws under the plate When you unscrew these the motor should come out ( Downwards !!)

You'll also have to disconnect the metal stay that holds the motor and gear unit up when u put he bowl in place. Otherwise you cannot get the motor out.

Disconnect the motor from the power cable ( mine had a choc box type of connection) And it should all come out.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Our Kenwood km 001 was

First things first How old is this unit? If it is less than a year Kenwood will replace it. Now if it is older than a year have you verified that you have 120Vac from the wall outlet? If you have we can proceed with troubleshooting the unit. Any of the following will require some disassembly of the unit. Again I want to stress that If it is under warranty opening the unit may void the warranty so please be aware of this. We need to determine the point of failure. It could be the switch, a fuse or possibly a bi-metal thermostat has blown open.

We will start with the fuse. Start by unlpugging the unit and removing the housing. At the entry point of the AC line there should be a fuse holder. Remove the fuse, if it is a clear glass fuse check the fuseable link inside has it been blown or not? If it is not a glass fuse you will need a ohm meter or continuity meter. If blown replace with correct amperage fuse.

Now for the switch, locate the power swith on the inside. Take a volt meter and measure from ground to the switched side of the contacts. When open you should get no voltage, when closed you will read 120VAC. ( BE CAREFUL THIS IS A SHOCK HAZARD)

Bi-Metal Thermostat.

Locate something that looks like this.

If you cannot find one there may not be one. This is for overheating purposes.

Lastly here is the manual for your mixer stating the one year warranty. Good luck!

Kenwood chef A701A mixer not working but blender

could be one of three things
1) the belt is broken to the main gearbox (fairly easy to replace if you can get one)
2) a gear has slipped or broken which means none of the front end will operate.(I have this problem and cannot get the gear body to open)
3) If the top and front worms are turning then the problem is with the planetary gear which again is fairly easy to replace

I have a KENWOOD electronic mixer (about 10 years old)

AFTER TALKING TO KENWOOD'S REPAIR SHOP ON THE PHONE, THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO OPEN UP THE WHOLE MIXER TO REPALCE THE SPEED DIAL ---WHICH WOULD COST NEARLY AS MUCH AS BUYING A NEW MIXER...TYPICAL.
IN ANY CASE THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE INTERCONNECTION BETWEEN THE SPEED DIAL AND THE NYLON WHEEL THAT INTERFACES WITH IT. IN MY CASE, AND MOST LIKELY IN MANY OTHERS, THE PLASTIC PART OF THE INSIDE OF THE SPEED DIAL DEVELOPED STRESS FRACTURES AND EVENTUALLY CRACKED OFF COMPLETELY SO THAT THE SPEED DIAL WOULD SIMPLY SPIN AND HAVE NO EFFECT ON THE MOTOR EITHER TO START OR STOP IT OR INCREASE OR DECREASE THE SPEED.
IT WAS FAIRLY EASY TO SEE THE PROBLEM ONCE YOU REMOVE THE TWO SCREWS THAT CONNECT THE MOTOR TO THE METAL SWING ARM. THAT WILL ALLOW THE MOTOR TO DROP DOWN ABOUT A CENTIMETER OR HALF AN INCH.
TO FIX THE PROBLEM IT IS SIMPLY A MATTER OF FIGURING OUT _- HOW TO GET THE INSIDE OF THE SPEED DIAL TO RECONNECT TO THE NYLON DISC FROM THE MOTOR!

I DECIDED TO FIRST: USE A REGULAR HOUSE HOLD SEWING PIN (TWO OF THEM ONE FOR EACH SIDE OF THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY) TO SERVE AS A TYPE OF "PIN" TO SECURE THE TWO OBJECTS TOGETHER.
HEAT UP THE PIN UNTIL IT IS RED HOT!! AND USING SOME NEEDLE-NOSE PLYERS BEGIN TO PUSH THE PIN THRU THE PLASTIC (OF THE SPEED DIAL) AND FINALLY INTO THE NYLON DISK BELOW IT. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO BURN THE SMALL HOLE BUT ONCE IT IS DONE A FINAL HEATED PIN OR VERY SMALL NAIL IS PUSHED THRU AND ALLOWED TO COOL THUS BECOMING STUCK!! DO THIS FOR BOTH SIDES IF YOU HAVE COME THIS FAR YOU WILL KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
NEXT I FILLED THE SURROUNDING WHOLE NEXT TO THE PIN AND ON BOTH SIDES WITH A VERY , VERY GOOD 2 PART EPOXY GLUE.. (TAKE YOUR TIME IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL HOURS TO FINISH IT BECAUSE YOU NEED TO USE THE TIME TO DO SEVERAL LAYERS OF EPOXY TO DRY.. THAT WILL HOLD THE SPEED DIAL LIKE A ROCK AND WILL BE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL !! AND BEST OF ALL IT SAVES THE MIXER AND DIDNT COST MUCH AT ALL!!
IN A NUT SHELL THE PINS FORM THE SAME FUNCTION AS REINFORCING RODS IN CEMENT TO HOLD IT TOGETHER ALSO GIVING THE EPOXY SOMETHING TO BIND TO !!
