To get at the ink pads all the printer goto be taken apart it a big job, you cant miss the ink pads when you open the printer apart it one big mess of ink there.

try these options below....
turn on/off, unplug, plug in, should reset configs.

take all the paper out, put half as much back in.
check the rollers to make sure no paper or particles are stuck.

go to applications folder for your computer, dbl click printer icon for make of printer. check settings. print 'test document and clean cartridge heads', this should ensure proper printing formats. another thing might be that you have to leave the printer on at all times, have you've tried this? i have known printers to be this way, not so sure with your brand though.

lastly, go to web site of printer model and check site for trouble shooting if this does not work above.

This works with most Brother printers

Procedure how to reset the error 46 error (unable to clean). This can be done on every Brother inkjet machine with a numeric keypad.

- Machine off
- Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu” button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.
- press 80
- press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
- press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
- press “99” to exit the maintenance mode

Now you are able to print again, but actually your ink absorber box is now full with ink. Ink flooding can happen if you don’t replace this ink box

Press menu then*2864 within 2 seconds (maint should be on the display and all the lights should be flashing, if not try again) press 80
then keep pressing black/mono start button until screen displays ‘purge count’
press 2783 to reset purge count
press stop/exit key
press 99
machine should return to normal

Genuine ink cartridges are expensive but sometimes the off brands don't work. If you're using generic ink try switching it out with brand name. The ink also has a tendency to clog if you haven't printed anything in a little bit. Use a q-tip and alcohol to clean around the ink cartridge in the carriage, etc. then try again.

i would just look for that in google or ask.com by typing in printer for 200gsm paper or...ask a somebody at a sears store localy or their website.

Hi there you can try it will get you to the maintenance and you can clear the code there


1. Press the Menu & Mono start keys. Next press the up arrow key 4 times to make the machine enter the maintenance mode.

2. Enter 8 & 0 by using the up arrow key & SET keys.

3. Press the mono start key several times until the purge count appears on the LCD.

4. Enter 2 7 8 & 3 by using the up arrow key & set keys to reset the purge count to zero

5. Press the stop/exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6. Enter 9 twice by using the up arrow & set key's to exit from maintenance mode

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

there is scaner function as printer functino( which u load from printer driver. from there u can scan any docement-nepal

46 says the ink absorber box and flushing box are full, you need a shop to replace these and reset the counters. It's possible to just reset the error but you risk printer damage if they overflow.

pls refix the printer catridge after cleaning the printer head.

I found this at brother website. If not the solution, they have a solution center at the link below. I chose dcp120 since dcp135 was not on list.

Brother sugested solution: This is typically caused by an incorrect selection made during the LCD prompting after a cartridge is replaced or the hook did not snap securely over the ink cartridge when installing. Do the following to clear the message.
