BIOs screens do not sleep ever, see that trick power on, hammer esc, and go to prompted page 1 of the bios if these test fails the screen is bad or the PC overheats. THE CPU SHUTS off if too hot at 90c. all do that. and is normal if allowed overheat, even laying on blanket or bet. we can run HWinfo32. for free and see the CPU overheat no need ever to rip off the heat sink cooling pipes. bios fails or does not, that is a binary path to the truth./. fails bad screen or overheats (or other causes even huge battery shorting (gee remove it first and run on AC power only) bios does not fail that means windows 10 is messed up, corrrupted or simply set up wrong ... easy no using just fingers , and HWINFO32 free and safe. or the display drivers are not from DELL.com get them load them. the only drivers that work and are not INFECTED are here w10 too. if only windows 10 is mess, bios works all day. install the w10 drivers, from dell.com the disable all sleep modes if still fail do the dell recovery or reload w10 the hdd must be tested and i see you did via F12. the PC does not fail in BIOS is a windows problem or boot to any Linux demo media, and linux runs all day then windows is a wreck, and the cures are tedious. To be honest, you have had this laptop and OS for its lifespan. You cant make everything last forvever. Just get a new system. But if you insist, I would re-image the drive. Sounds like it needs a cleanout of old files and general stuff. I would make sure the correct drivers are installed as well.

DDR1 old not new with ******* high density ram. test them 1 by 1 , at a time in bank 0, channel A slot???????? 512 MB max per slot, so , 2 slots are 1GB max. per the manual I read to you PC133 (non-ECC or ECC) and not Registered, RAM, SDRAM only , buffered. the ram must be in matched sets, same SKU means same exact P/N# intel and dell told you that and MMC is intels chip. The bios must like any ram you buy, MUST. this mobo has 4 LED panel for 4 bit binary POST errors what does the 4 LED codes show. 4 yellow is bad bios, means cannot finish POST and more. in the free manual this relic has no VGA port on mobo at all that means only a PCI video card is allowed, to get video that means it can fail when it tries to steal, VRAM from DDR1 bank. sure can , try other VGA cArd? oops wrong this PC has AGP slot and we all know from 2001 year 1/2 the AGP 4x cards made do not work here, only DELLs list , work. 4x/2x modes at 1.5 V , using 3.3v AGP card will blow up(smoke) some dual voltage cards do work but only in DELLS LIST 32bit only. we all hated AGP then , it is a huge horror. then. PCI video works better. try one for $5 used, PCI not PCI-express does not fit here. as you can see I can not see your PC and all things connected no what VGA card you have exactly and matters first. VRAM issues. reading old dell form real posts at dell 1. 6200 nVidia AGP for basic work, light low level settings in games. 2. 6600 nVidia AGP for mid to low end gaming. 3. 6600 GT AGP, good over all lower mid level card for gaming, that would be my least choice for your system. 4. 7600 GS AGP, for lower mid level gaming 5. 7600 GT AGP, for a good over all card for your system and power supply. do not attempt OC, overclocking or it will fail this $9 at flea bay, 10 times PCs value. 21 years old

IF you are not using a Dell charger that is the first thing to try. They are proprietary and wont run the laptop in some cases involving the battery. There could also be an issue with the MOSFET power transistors that may have happened at the same time. This is not easy to check or repair.

so 2 boot drives fail? hdd? the drives must not be erased or empty. and must have and OS installed? and not fail S.M.A.R.T testes or is useless if does. so did this PC ever run before, your eyes? or bought it DOA.? history matters. this PC is 2005/2006 made, a true relic in the PC world. no display make nor model told if it too is 2005, the CCFL back lamps LCD are dead, making black screens for eternity and now. the PC CMOS coin cell is dead. must be replaced for new. most HDD this old are dead. try new HDD and coin cell and working monitor try loaded fresh OS on the tested and working HDD. a new SSD is better.

find a conversion kit but are rare now after year 2010 and older had ccfl this mon is 2009 ,the last CCFLs all now are dead , most after 5 years time. so most were scrapped, do to $100 conversion kits. long ago most kits were for PC not old MONITORS> the kit makers closed up shop due to the fact no buyers now. all you can do is google, no need for me to do that for you. the LCD inside most times the not possible to do. this. ccfl ripped out and LED array put in and now the CCFL defuser fails for LED , looks very ugly the LED has new defuser where would you get that, IDK. most of these old MON are gone now, dumped. need LED array new need new defuser LCD for LED. new LED power supply and make all that fit, the monitor working is worth $20 and zero not. so why spend a all that labor and parts on old monitor just buy used one 2011 or newer used and cheap? Ive done this 2 ways the kit way , nice,(on PCs only) and hack way , and the DEFUSER looked like H3LL the LED make what call hot spots. too bright at LED points really the electrics are simple but not Defuser.

No certain answer as cause is undiagnosed. Possible cause is a driver corruption. Another possible cause relates to a cabling issue, if you have an HDMI cable attached. These are wild shots in the dark. It could be anything from a bad power supply to a defective graphics card --or neither! In could even be a game corruption if you have been playing one that seizes control of the full screen. You can try to get to safe mode via pressing the power button three time, each time interupting the loading of windows quickly by pressing the power button again. You might get lucky on the fourth pressing of the power button and allowing it to complete the boot up. If you do get into simply safe mode, you might update your drivers. Or, you might from Safe Mode, run the DISM tool. If this does notw work, you might indeed have to reinstall the OS using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool and a flash drive, although that is certainly complicated by lack of a cursor which seems to stand in the way of accessing BIOS. You have not indicated what you were doing with the computer preceding this event nor the current OS, informaiton sometimes helpful in diagnosis.
