I had to call Sanyo on this same problem, and I just wanted to help you out on this. When you turn on the the TV and it asks for home or store, chose home then do the channel scan. After the channel scan completes, switch to your tv source, hdmi1, then turn off the tv and back on and it should just go straight back to hdmi1. Let me Know if this works!
Only for a little suggestion even when it has nothing to do with this to know ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t36YT7-5GTY but have you test those kind of fcc flatsheets by manipulating like for example pushing on it with a peace of towel on those sheets for a faultering test ? they can be dry out and come loose by direct sunlight or other cause by heating up over a time and it will become faultering.
Maybe it could be in cause of strange defects if you have service manual and all things measured do not use the new prints without heatsink it should allways on it if the same chipset is used if not modified , or you have bought a refurbished print because of the missing heatsink and metal cover?
I would just replace the TV, because any guess you make without the testing and equipment is just an expensive guess. New TV's are cheap by comparison. I have had a lot of TV'ds and the best do far is my Vizio 42 Inch LCD. 11 years old no issues.
Replace or have the powrer supply tested and eventually serviced.Lightning strikes affect two types of boards in televisions - the power supply by means of entering through the AC line and main boards by means of entering from the external signal sources. Please know that VGA is an analog signal and HDMI is digital so it is impossible to go from one to the other without a converter.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. Was the TV on a surge protector? If not it likely the main circuit board is shorted out. Contact the local power provider and try submitting a claim for damage.
Check on the power connection cables through from the sanyo TV to the current outlets. make connection firmer to grip on for suply flow. Power on TV once more shoudl have some positive effect than as before
