To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability. Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the sites Check this site too.
Universal remote controls are available at most of the electronic spare part selling shops. Visit some online sites too, which deals with electronic spare parts.

I had this problem once. what I did was switch the caption to a different type and the caption went away. try it if you want.

Probably Not. Since most universal remotes will only be good for certain functions,i.e. Volume, Channel etc... not all the features of the original remote. You can try to do it manually if there is a Menu function on your TV.

Try a number of repair shops. Try to find out about their reputation. Out of warranty?

There may be an issue with "cold" solder joints on the power supply board, or there may be a failing component on that board as well.

Some things to look for also are bad solder joints particularly on the fuses of the inverter board or boards depending on production run. Those are going to be rectangular items marked with "8A" on them near where the multiwire connector attaches to that board under the plastic cover. As well as any bulging electrolytic capacitors. Since there usually more than one in parallel if one shows as bad- replace them all
A can of cold shot help locate the specific area or component of the 24 volt section of the power supply that is the issue.

You are doing a process of elimination without knowing the source of the problem. There are two problems here, one is the Audio and second the Video controller. All devices rely on the Power source and Control Center. By the time you keep doing a replacement, you could have had a new TV. Unless you are a technician, Don't waste you time and money.

Check and replace the main board. Check back-light inverter boards. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view. It will make search easy. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

The main power regulator board should be checked. In most cases, this board might need replacement as card basis. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic /Timeslide, can be selected by the drop-down list, by the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name / model number / IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

This is a common problem with Polaroid sets. I would check the power supply/inverter board for any capacitors with bulging tops. The typical ones that cause this problem are 10uf 450V caps.
