Can not remove back on vizio 42
If it has a pedestal base attached it has to come off first--set face down and on padded surface---support the frame of the screen carefully---in that position exert NO downward force as the screen unit (Display panel) is very fragile and can be destroyed. Most of these sets the base obscures or hides screws that need to be removed to get the back off.

This problem is usually caused by either a faulty backlight inverter board or a faulty LCD controller. When the tv turns on, do you see a dull glow on the screen indicating that the backlight is lit?

ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves
checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.
My Vizio Tv won't turn on
The power supply regulator board shouldbe ckecked for fault. Check the fuse. If it is found burned out, find the reson for that. Surely there will be a reson for blowing of the fuse, if it is blown up. Without rectfying it, inserting an other fuse in place, might make things more worse.

I can see good video, but I hear no audio with my XWH200 adapters?Published 11/21/2011 06:46 AM Updated 11/21/2011 02:26 PMWhile most HDMI sources work with good audio and video, we have a compatibility issue with audio from a few specific products (eg, DirecTV HD DVR satellite set-top box, DISH Networks satellite set-top-box, and TiVo Premiere XL cable set-top-box). If you are experiencing problems with no audio or muted audio with one of your HDMI sources, then please try changing the audio settings on your problematic HDMI source to PCM or LPCM. Then turn off the TV, remote power from the WirelessHD adapters, and power off the HDMI source. Now power everything back on. If you are still experiencing no audio then please write down the model number of your HDMI source with no audio and contact VIZIO customer support.
Vizio VW32LF powers up no sound no picture unplug to turn off
I had the same problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound.
HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

Hi,
Please unplug the unit from the outlet for 15 mins and then plug it back in and check if the symptoms remain the same.
Swap another cable/cords to isolate it from fault.
May I know also what cable/cord are you using for the connection?

You need to find out first if you lost picture due to backlights stop working (due to bad 24vdc power supply or backlights inverter board) or the T-CON board stop working.
Whenit stopd working, please try this:
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board.
if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having.

2/3 Inch Faint Horizontal Bar through center of screen
A little WARNING!! .. don't open the TV because if you do that the warranty is gone.
Whenever you see a black horizontal bar on the flat panel screen TV, it usually means that the buffers in one of the Horizontal COF chips is dead, not soldered properly or got damaged mechanically during transport or something like that. COF chips are microchips made on the flat cable that are connected from the board to the LCD panel screen, and they lit up certain sectors of the screen. Every X buffer lits up pixels from specific locations in combination with Y buffers, depending on type of panel used in a device. and when one of the Y buffers die ... then the pixels receive only X buffers information and not Y and then the black bar appears with some weird noise dots on the edges or something like that. It is repairable, what you need is an SMD repair (rework) soldering station and an identical Buffer COF chip. Unfortunately this is not a quick fix if you don't have the appropriate equipment, so I would suggest using that extended warranty and get your TV serviced properly by the LCD repair man :)

http://www.hotsolder.com/uploaded_images/iron-726250.jpg... this is the hot air SMD soldering station
depending on the COF chip type, some of the chips are soldered and some are just connected through the flat connectors without soldering.
A little WARNING!! again .. don't open the TV because if you do that the warranty is gone.
I OWN A VIZIO VW42LFHDTV10A.
Hello,
Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.
The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.
Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.
if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.
Hope this will helpout in solving the problem....
