Drop down to the 'paragraph' that starts with - Travelmate 200. (200 in Blue) Go down to the 7th line (5730 in Blue), scroll across, and click on - 6493 in Blue.
This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files. After you click on the file name (6493) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up. The file is downloading in the background.
The CMOS Battery, or also known as the RTC Battery, (Real Time Clock), is on the BOTTOM of the motherboard.
Scroll down a little to the two Large views of the motherboard; 1) The first view shown is the Bottom side of the motherboard. Has the blue - For Acer Travelmate 6942 6942G notebook motherboard MBTLN0B001 and tested+ree, above it.
Yes. TravelMate 6492, not TravelMate 6493. The RTC Battery is still in the same place.
Above the pink processor socket......see the Yellow round object? It actually has wires coming from it, that end in a small white connector. Not the same color, not the same series, but gives you a better look at this type of RTC Battery setup,
Just an average laptop disassembly video I found. Skip to 3:40 or so to start. You SHOULD wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's aligator clip attached to a good ground source. He is AT least working on a wood table top.
Perhaps some of these Acer pictorial guides will also help,
Look down in the Battery Compartment for the CMOS Battery, or in a small hidden panel down in the Battery Compartment. Also look on the top of the motherboard, once the Palm Rest Cover (Top Cover) is removed.

Buy a new battery. The battery is dead. Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced. If the power cord works and allows you to use the laptop, then your battery is definitely bad if it does not charge or if it does not let you stay on the computer without shutting down after a short period.
I assume you put in the sd card and nothing happens - no autoplay options. If you click start-computer, do you see the card reader listed with your drive letters? If not, you are probably missing the driver for the sd card reader.
Go to support.acer.com - service and support - drivers and downloads.
Follow the screens to find your laptop and you should see the driver there. Download it and install it and the problem should be solved.
I am so sorry to hear that,of course you can recover his password by using Windows Password Recovery 6.0, which is very smart and just take a short time to reset a new password. It is great and you can also have a try. download it from password recovery
Terrible storm, did that include lightning ? If you re-installed windows, did you re-install the correct Acer drivers ? Turn off the computer and take the battery out of the laptop over night and then put it back together and 10 to 20% of the time, it re - boots and un-freezes the modem... The modem has a small brain that is why u unplug the battery over night to try to get it working correctly again.... Also check for Acer drivers for that modem..... If it still does not work then you will have to replace the modem with a usb dongal type modem like US Robotics for about 25 to 35 plus shipping.... http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=555167

There are many reasons this can be happening. Try starting the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and see if the problem still exists. If not that means there's a problem with the start up boot process. Questions to consider: How old is the machine? Have you done all your updates? Possible virus.
