Check the lid switch it may not be making the circuit or needs replacing.

The locking mechanism for your washing machine could might be jammed here. Maybe some clothes could of had got in the way. Or there could be a glitch in the washing machines computer system The washing machine could also not be draining correctly ,and is leaving the washer door locked and the drum filled up with water.Unplug the washer for about 5 minutes to reset the system and the machine and see if it solves the problem. You did not post any information on the make and model. This couls be an issue with the lid switch or the control panel

So first make sure you have proper and contact current in the outlet being used. A simple tester and some wiggling is the easy but not most thorough way. Please don't open up the outlet box if you aren't experienced. you unplugged it but how long did you wait before plugging it back in.
