We have Panasonic KX-T7731 telephones

A 3x7 system with 7731 phones tends to show that you have a TA-624/824 series system. CID is delivered to the phones via a xxx93 card and programming. In a 624 it connects to the main board via a ribbon cable and is installed in the system cover. The 82493 cards plug into slots on the main board. Once, or if, the card is installed, it needs to be turned on via programming. At the very minimum, program 900 in system programming turns it on and there are other parameters that you can adjust in the 900's.

My panasonic kx-7731 phone only

A TA-824 comes with 4 manuals. One of them is the Programming Manual (PM) http://www.public.carl.airpost.net/Pana/TA-824/300_TA_PM_07-04.pdf and in it there is a description of how to program the system and set up incoming ringing in system programs 408-410 (pdf page 40)

I have the panasonic system, and one of my phones

Look at the phones. The one that shows both the name and number is either a 7735 or 7736 :-) They are 3 line of display as opposed to the 2 lines of the 30 and 31.

In a TA series phone system, you can adjust what is logged and either have name or number priority, you would press the CID-S button that you set up to toggle to the opposite display while the phone is ringing or you're talking. It's section 9.3 of the maintenance tool or 904 in system commands.

We had a company purchase

You don't need software to change it, only the manual. In the opening pages are the instructions to default the system and erase all the messages. If you have lost the oringinal notes, $120 isn't all that out of line for a dealer to break into the system and map out the custom service menus.. It's more that I would charge, but I'm not there.

Anyway, a 7731 is just a phone. It connects to a Panasonic system and the voice mail system is either part of the system or a seperate box. If it's a TVS, you access it via the serial connector and Hyperterm. If it's a TVA (black and blue box) you access it via the USB, serial, or LAN port.

It's initialized by the rotary switch or the dip switches on the box.

Is the KX-T7731 caller ID equipped?

The CID comes from a card with a part number ending in 93 as in 62493, 82493, 84893, etc. That and programming will display CID to Panasonic system display phones.

How do i change the number of rings from 3 to 5

The call forward timer is dependent on the phone system your 7731 is plugged into. In a TA series, you get 5,10,15, or 20 seconds. At 20 seconds, it would be transferring on the 4th ring. It's an adjustment in system program 202 and the time is system wide.

If you happen to have a different system, like a TAW, TD, or TDx phone system, you get better times and individual delays.

How do I get caller

This question comes up a lot on FixYa. You still need 3 things, CID service from the telco, A CID card, and programming. If your phone is ringing and it says CO CALL or something similar, I'd be looking for the CID card first.

I'd like to use the intercom - what are the codes

Since a 7731 is a display phone and they were first made when Pana intro'ed the TA series, I'd go for 101, 102 etc. Try dialing 0 and look at the display of the phone that rings. The extension number should be displayed. Other Panasonic numbers were 11+ for a 2 digit board in the 30810 and 61610 flat packs and in the U.K. they probably had 21+ in some of their boxes.

How do I listen to

If it's a Panasonic brand TVx voice mail, the access code is #6* and your extension. That identifies you as a user and is the same as if you dialed the voice mail system from your own phone.
