Red light flashing on joystick about 10 min after charging

Most of the time it may be the batteries at fault. One more thing to try is charging the chair with the Joystick on all night 10-14 hours uninterrupted charging. Your chair may suffer from current roll back. There is a circuit in your system that has to be reset by the long charge cycle to reset it. I did not make this up. it occurs when the motors over heat or have a a large current draw. the chair will operate normally for ten maybe even twenty mins. then suddenly drop down to 2 flashing red lights. Can the hoveround batteries be charged with a trinkle charger?

simple answer is yes, However certain procedures need to be followed. take the batteries out of the chair or if you know what you're doing completely disconnect them. charge them (you have two 12v batteries in series) separately, keeping in mind they are either GEL cell or GLASS mat deep cycle type batteries. caution should be taken to not over charge them and unless the charger in designed for that type of battery specifically, not too many cycles and not for more than a few hours each time. they will dry out. just out of curiosity why not use the factory one that came with them.

How do you change batteries on Hoveround?

Remove the black webbing strap over the battery covers by squeezing the plastic pinch clip. Remove the cover carefully so that you do not yank any of the leads. Using a wrench loosen the bolts that attach the leads to the posts, be careful if there is any corrosion that may irritate your skin. Check the fuses to make sure they are still good; if not they are regular automotive fuses that are inexpensive and can be found at any auto parts store. Remove the plastic caps or any packaging from the new battery posts and seat the batteries on the tray, connect the leads to the posts as indicated and tighten with a wrench. Turn the power chair on to make sure the connections are good and that you get power. Replace the covers, and tighten the straps. You may want to use the power chair until the battery is used up before you charge it fully for 8-12 hours; this will ensure that the battery gets FULLY cycled and any buildup inside the battery from it sitting on the shelf in the store is burned out. Make sure that you charge the power chair after a full day's use for 8-12 hours (overnight), not after every trip as overcharging can cause damage. If the power chair in not going to be used for a while, continue to charge the batteries at least one day a week to keep the batteries fluid.
