It depends on the kind of cystern u have. here is a few i know how to remove

1.The 2 button setting on top of cestern needs to be turned left untill it loosens up

2.The 2 screws at back of cystern lid needs to be unscrewd

3.also a 2 button cystern. has metel cabel under lid. can lift lid a littel. thast pull hard on cabel were it enters the 2 flush button meganisem

This problem is either two things:

1/ The water inlet valve is letting by and going down the overflow pipe. (Connected to the main centre column). You can check this by taking off the lid off.

2/ Centre column seal at the base is letting by. You can unclick the centre column by pushing the two paddles either side.

Then lift out the centre column and check the grey washer at the base. You can turn this washer around and see if this solves - if not the column has probably has a part snap off.

Your flapper is not sealing at the bottom of the tank. You can either return the toilet, replace the flapper, or try smearing a little vaseline on the underside of the flapper lip where it contacts the tank bottom. The latter may be all it needs to seal a tiny leak.

Mr Clean magic eraser. Its a white sponge. It works.

You will need to remove the toilet and access the bolts from inside the enclosure. It is a dirty job.... good luck!
