Delta 36-979 10" Left-Tilt Contractor's Saw Questions & Answers
On/Off Switch is not working sometimes. Will
I dont have a steel clad answer for you ... consider this please: Depending on the cuts you are performing, your motor may ge 'going out' on over load (heat). The solution is to wait until the motor cools.
Thanks for your interest in FixYa.com
I set the blade hight-lock
you saw cant just rise up. gravity would pull it down. check you measurment again. maybe set your blade a little more shallow.
Need to line up the blade with the fence
Hi there,
I take the blade out of my tri square and lay it between the fence and the blade and let it touch the blade. Then I set the fence tight with the tri square blade. With the blade against the fence you can position the saw blade just where you need it.
I always add this for your information. If this is not the solution that you are looking for please re post because when we pick a question to answer FixYa takes it out of the question queue. Thank You for choosing FixYa.com.
Delta 36 979 motor turns
Hi there,
This is simple to fix.It sounds like you need to replace the brushes. There are two types of brushes ones that are easy to change and one that have small holes in the front part of the brush housing that require a small piece of wire that runs through the holes and keeps the brushes in place for reassembly. The wires length will depend on the vent that is used to pull the wire out when the armature is back in place and the front piece is bolted back together. While the armature is out blow everything down with compressed air and use a hacksaw blade to clean the grooves between the metal plates on the armature and add a thin coating of grease to both ends of the armature If they need it you might want to clean out the holes that the armature ends seat in.Thank you for choosing FixYa.com and Good Luck! I am trying to get the saw blade off. Is it
Yes is is reverse threads. If you put a block of wood in front of the saw blade and wedge it against the table, you can put your wrench on the nut and pull towards you assuming you are in the front of the saw where the switch is.
I have a Delta 36-979
I can't find any specs for this belt, You can buy it online from them the part number is 643928 and the cost is around 7.22, Sorry but this is the only information I can find for you.
Saw runs for a few
The motor that drives your table saw (ref. # 220, part # 651195-00) has both a run and start capacitor. If your motor turns freely by hand however seems to lock in one position or turns very slowly when you switch it on, indicates that the one or both of the capacitors may have failed. Easy to check, remove capacitor covers and capacitors making note of position. With digital meter set to uF, check/test capacitor by first shorting the two tabs together with insulated tool to drain stored charge if any, then connect leads. They should read to within 5% plus or minus of printed
mfd rating. Parts are available at
www.grainger.com or commercial
HVAC dealer or ebay. Take note of the capacitor size that you order so that it will fit under cover. Replace with same mfd range and same or higher voltage. If capacitors test ok then look closely at motor windings for discoloration (burned windings) or melted twine used to wrap coils together. If windings look burned or brown/black replace motor. Good luck
10 inch lest tilt Unisaw
There is an adjustment under the table top. It usually is a bolt with a lock nut that allows you to adjust the table to a predetermined angle every time. You can adjust the amount that the table will go by unlocking the lock nut and then turning the bolt the correct direction allowing the table to come to a full 90 degrees. Once you have the table a 90 degrees lock the bolt down with the lock nut. This will aloow you to change the tilt of the table to something other than 90 degrees and then come back to the 90 degrees by turning the adjusting wheel until it bottoms out against the locked doen adjusting bolt.
I have a 1/16" tilt
Your question is not very clear. Here are several answers.
By tilt you may be speaking of bevel adjustment 0 - 45 Some saws have hidden under the table or obvious positive bevel stops or screws in the table top for 90 and 45 degree. Adjust them.
You may have a bent or warped blade causing the "tilt."
Thin blades may be stiffened with blade stabilizing washers $14
With the saw unplugged remove the blade. Grab the threaded arbor shaft and pull it up and down. Next push the shaft straight in and out. If there is wiggle the bearings are worn and may need replacing.
The saw will die down then blown the overload
if it were me i would contact Delta directly by email or phone. give them documentation of everything that was done and what the tech said.
i am wondering if you dont have bearing problems in the arbor. or maybe the arbor its self is defective. if you could remove the belt from the motor and start it up. see how long it runs and how it sounds. also with it off and the belt off, move the blade. it should roll very easy.
one other thing is, with the belt on the motor , the motor should just hang there and be movable.
the weight of the motor its self is suppose to be enough to put the proper tension on the belt. dont pull the motor tight on the belt and lock it down. reply back with your results
I have a delta contractors table saw that wont
Most likely to quit suddenly is the switch.
My table saw switch broke recently, and at first I thought it was the motor.
Over the years I remember seeing table saws fitted with a handy box and ordinary light switch to replace the table saw switch.
Check for power at motor: Sometimes the wire connection from switch has access box on the motor where you can get in and check for power.
