It is an electronic scale so it does need the battery to function proper..though it may give some readings without ..probably the battery place is for another memory functions like ..history ...or ...showing difference ..or so ..
first of all if it seam that it has major difference from one day to another be sure you have set the right measurement unit ..cause if it is in odd one the difference may be considerable and if you are used in Kg or so its understandable.. so ..what you actually need is a user guide for it to be sure you use it right ..and to be placed in a perfect horizontal position ..I will look for a manual ..but I need the manufacturer name and model .... the serial is not relevant cause it may be almost anything ..
