Despite fitting a new washer kit to an old style
I suppose you're talking about a toilet. One likely issue is the flapper valve ( if this has one). If no flapper then check whatever sealing mechanism is used to prevent water from entering the bowl when idle. Clean the sealing surfaces good. Make certain they are properly aligned.
The bowl doesn't flush from the front part
If a new toilet, the front holes may not have been cast correctly. If an older toilet it is likely mineral buildup has blocked those holes. A mittor and a coat hanger shoudl suffice to open the holes up, use the mirror to see under the rim lip and use the coat hanger to open the holes- you may need to use a larger clip instead depending on the size of the holes.

They may be a push fit on two plastic posts. Once off, they reveal a screw between them. Release this to remove the cistern lid. Make a note of the position of the buttons as they only fit one way round."

the inlet washer needs to be replaced to stop the overflow, the washers are easy to get and cheap but trying to get the unit open to replace the washer is my big question at the moment

I am not familiar with that model, but it sounds like your fill valve is leaking or the water level in the tank is too high. Take the toilet tank top off and flush the toilet. When the water gets full and you hear the water stop ( except for your leak) look at the flush valve. Is water running over the top of it and running into the hole in the middle? Then the float need adjustment.
If you are hearing you leak still, lift up on the float. Did it stop? if so the valve may need adjustment due to it not seating completely. You can probably find something online (youtube) easier than I can explain it.

Sum velves makes dos do hat, the most simpel solusion if u cant live with it is to get a new velve or to try and get a lower cap that gous over that part, bt jip as a plumber myself i also vind it weard they make it that way

Were the flexi hose go in to the toilet and conect up to velve thread tape. unscrew the flexi hose and then the plastick nut holding the velve on to the sistern.
put the new velve in and bobs ur uncel.
Its very easy, just look were the 2 seal rubbers are when u remove it, may be 1 rubber.
and the flout of the velve will be a cup or ball, thast ajast that tothe right water level, u will c were the flout or ball is on new velve there will be plastick with bumps un it [most commen] if not let me know bt around that area u should find somting to adjust the hight. sorry for spelling errors, im a plumber nt a english major lol

Water is leaking out , close water off then water
Your flush valve (flapper) is leaking. Some of these rubber flappers snap on to posts. Others, slide down the overflow tube. Others are the plunger type that lift straight up and down (some of these have a gasket on the bottom that go bad.) In any case be sure flapper closes properly. Make sure the chain to the handle isn't so long as to get between valve and seat holding flapper open. If all else fails buy a fluidmasgter flush fixer repair kit and follow directions. I had a similar problem one winter and wasted about 200.00 on water.,
