Short battery life

Batteries have a limited lifespan, typically 3 or 4 years for lithium, more for NiCad and NiMh , and their capacity between charges decreases over the years.
To extend the lifetime of a battery it should be run completely flat after every few charges rather than topping it up. This is essential with NiCads. New batteries need to be charged several times and run flat under normal use before they gain their full capacity.

12 volt black and decker keyless chuck will not close. Model CD120G

Try giving the inside a spray with WD40 then try closing the chuck. Check that there is not a left handed screw in the center of the chuck that has become partialy unscrewed. The chuck can jam open and just need a strong gril to release it. If the outer sleve of the chuck is turning but nothiing happens then you will need to get the chuck replaced.

Can you use 18v lithium battery in old 18v drill

Yes you can. On tools, 18 volts is 18 volts. Tools don't 'know' how the power is being created, either by Ni-Cad or Li-Ion means. Chargers are totally different. Most Li-Ion chargers can charge older Ni-Cad and some Ni-MH batteries but older Ni-Cad chargers will charge Li-Ion battery untill they overheat and sometimes start on fire because older chargers can't detect when the Li-Ion batteries are full.

Release and change bit ?

Hello Joey, I am assuming your chuck is jammed .Use a pair of pipe wrenches and rags to pad the jaws.Place one wrench under the back part of the chuck on left side with drill pointed at you.Put the top wrench in same direction on the front of the chuck. This should look like this _ >o_.Now tap the top pipe wrench handle with a hammer so you don't hurt your hands.I were gloves while doing this. Please let me know if you have any questions.THANK YOU for picking FixYa.com....Darryel

I have brand new b&D

It sounds like your charger is not charging your batteries. Since it is brand new, you might want to return it to the store where you bought it.

MY 1HR CHARGER FOR MY BLACK AND DECKER 18 VOLT

you can go to Blackanddecker.com and buy a replacement, or go to any major store that sells B&D or DeWalt and but the replacement charger. I would recommend taking the old one with you to ensure the proper one is bought.

How do you charge it?

The battery will come off of the drill, and you should have received a charger with the drill. You inset the battery in the charger, and plug the charger in.

Black and decker 18v cordless is not fully

If the battery is less than 2 years old, Black & Decker/Dewalt has a 2 year warranty on all batteries from date of purchase. Its most likely just a bad or damaged cell from not being fully charged pre-purchase. What happens is most Ni-Cads are only given a trickle charge in the factory and if left on a shelf too long can fully deplete itself, causing irreparable damage to the cells. If you're outside of that, a cheaper solution for battery replacement would be to look into a battery cell manufacturer like Interstate battery, who sells a non-describable battery for pretty much any application for about half the price of a name-branded one. Funny thing is they use the same exact cells. Hope that helps.
