Delta 10 inch unisaw switch hums wont start motor

All of the above are correct. However, before you go nuts with motor stuff, unplug the saw and make sure the blade shaft turns freely, If it doesn't, look for something jammed in the belt and pulley mechanisms. Loosen the drive belt and check the motor shaft rotation and the blade shaft rotation separately. If you find nothing, remove the belt and try starting the motor. If it won't start like this (no load) there is a motor problem. If it does start, find the drive mechanism problem and fix it; not many possibilities. Good luck. Delta Unisaw 34-782 Starts with a "Bang"

The capacitor is probably failing. Take the motor to an electrical service center (most mid-to-large cities have them ... usually something like "Industrial Electric and Motor Service" ... and ask to have it checked. Caps are cheap!

Motor won't stay running

This maybe the Run capacitor. If not handy, remove and bring to a motor shop as some capictors are internal!

Bladewillnot lower

sometimes when the blade is lowered too far the gears can get stuck. First try a reasonable tap with a mallet. If that fails you will need to access the mechanism, grease it and get it operating again

Delta x5 unisaw 3 hp.

The motor has a component called a clixon (there are other names for it, too). The clixon has a step up coil and a capacitor that gives the motor an extra bit of juice to get started turning. When it fails, you get the kind of thing you're talking about. If you keep trying to use it without this component working, it overheats the windings and shorts the motor out, killing it. You're most likely going to end up replacing the motor now.

Sorry I didn't have better news for you.

My blade is running backwards how do i fix it

Take the blade off and turn it around.
Take the cover off the side of the motor (unplugged of course) short any capacitor with a screwdriver to the metal side of the motor.  The wires should be able to be accessed and switched through an end-plate on the motor. The wires should be on connectors and can be pulled out easily with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Be sure that device is unplugged prior to servicing.
Good Luck.

When I returned from a

You only have 2 spots that will stop the blade from coming down unless something broke. There is a pin in the trunnion gear thing that is the stop. With the blade off, you can see the pin, right above the gear cut, it stops on a big pin in the back of the gear. It could be covered with stringy stuff and you wouldn't see it. And the other spot would be the back of the motor when it drops down, it could be hitting on a block of wood at the back of the saw. I can't see anyplace else it would stop. Did somebody use the saw while you were gone? Did they change the blade? How about the belt? I'm dieing to find out what happened. Hope this helps.

What is the rating of the starter overloads. A more basic question, are they adjustable or the heater type? It sounds like the starter overloads are taking you out. Check the full load amps of the motor you are using against the overload rating. Add 10% to this and set overloads at ths setpoint if adjustable. If heater equipped buy new heaters rated for motor load. Make sure to use the 1 phase rating and not the 3 phase. That is if you are using a 3 phase starter.

I have a 1979 unisaw and it is burning stock

I would use a straight edge, to see if the blade is parallel to the table. Bring the blade up, put the straightedge on it and measure to one of the dado cuts in the table, front and back should be the same. If not, You can loosen up the mounting bolts underneath and tap the whole thing around to square it up. Hope this helps.

Blade will not go to 90 degrees vertical to saw

This is an easy adjustment to make. Begin by unplugging the saw for safety. Here is a copy of the owner manual which explains exactly what to do on page 35 with pix.

Motor is having trouble getting started. Once going it works OK

Does it have a run capacitor? Maybe that's the culprit.

Does it have a centrifugal switch for disconnecting the start winding and engaging the run winding? If so, could the centrifugal switch be stuck.
