Poulan Wild Thing 18" 40cc Gas Chainsaw - P4018WT Questions & Answers
How long should the juel line be on a 40cc poulan
A fuel line should be long enough to teach from where it attaches to the carberator to the fuel tank but not quite touching the bottom - however the line in the tank end should have a small filter on it. You should be able to buy a replacement line for your specific saw.
Will not start
first check for spark then check ignition switch and coil and that's a good place to start
What kind of tool do
they have a tool for that crappy little hole you have to get to adjust the idle screws. Or u can use a deep socket same size that work's also
My Poulan P4018WT Chainsaw just
Mine did the same thing but i replaced ignition switch and gap my plug by a match head thickness. It doesn't matter what side of flywheel
I bought a Poulan 18" chainsaw, and from the very
Poulan has had a notorious carb issue over the past couple of years. Products roll off the line needing a carb adjustment right out of the box. One adjustment is covered under the warranty at a service dealer near you. Look up your closest dealer at poulan.com. This is not something consumer serviceable as it requires a special tool.
I have a Poulan P4018WT
i WOULD SAY IT IS RUNNING TOO LEAN ON THE MIXTURE SCREWS, THEY ARE SET UP IN THE FACTORY FOR THE BEST EMMISSIONS, NOT THE BEST RUNNING, THIS USUALLY MEANS THEY ARE SET VERY LEAN, UNFORTUNATLEY THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL TO ADJUST THE CARB, AND THE MAXIMUM REVS SHOPULD BE SET UP WITH A TACHOMETER, IF IT IS NEW I WOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE SELLER AND GET THEM TO RE ADJUST IT, IF THEY RUNS TO WEAK FOR TOO LONG IT WILL SEIZE, AND THEN THEY WILL BLAME THE OPERATOR.
WONT START REBUILT CARB , NEW PLUG GOOD SPARK,
Problems with engines not starting usually come down to either an electrical problem and no spark at the plug, or lack of fuel.
Remove
the spark plug and place the body of the plug against the engine.Check
there is a spark when the engine is cranked. If no spark check there
isnt a problem with the cut off switch.
The
fuel lines may have become airlocked. This can happen if the tank is run dry. If the saw has a primer bulb,
alternatively press it several times and then try to pull start the
engine with choke on. Repeat this several times. The primer bulb should feel spongy
and fill with fuel.
If you're up to it, you can dismantle the carburettor and
clean any dirt from valves. The carburettors on chainsaws, hedge cutters
etc are very fiddly with delicate diaphragms, valves and springs so you
have to be careful to avoid damage or loosing parts.
Ensure
air filter is clean. Foam elements can be washed with hot water and
detergent, squeezed dry in a cloth and re-oiled with a teaspoon of
engine oil spread through the foam. Paper elements can be cleaned with
compressed air blown from the inside of the filter but ideally should be
replaced.
Check fuel lines aren't kinked or blocked restricting fuel flow.
Ensure fuel filter isn't dirty. This is probably located at the end of the fuel line in the tank.
Check the throttle cable is actuating the throttle plate in the carburettor.
Check whether there is a vent on the tank or on
fuel cap. There is usually a valve on this to allow air into tank to
replace fuel as it leaves for the carburettor. Ensure this isn't
blocked.
Hope this helps !
