Hi The watch should have two position on the crown , first position should be for the date second for the main hands. be careful not to push the button with the crown pulled out as this may alter the hand settings on the chrono.

NO !! You cannot do it yourself !! You will destroy the value of the watch if you attempt a DIY repair. Google Cartier website, find a store near you, call them & discuss your watch; you can ship it insured to them, they'll call you BEFORE they do any work. If you or any non-authorized Cartier person opens the watch, you will destroy it's value, and they CAN tell if a non-Cartier person has opened it, will refuse to touch it.

Michael DeVito---PLEASE STOP telling people to take their Cartier to a "watch repair shop" !! If they do that instead of taking it to a Cartier shop, they will destroy the value of the watch. Once it is opened by a non-Cartier shop, Cartier will NOT stand behind it, won't even touch it and they can tell if it's been opened by someone non-Cartier trained. A 'regular' watch opening tool will damage a Cartier. And then pop goes the weasel, the watch is now worthless. Yes, they will destroy a fake that comes in their shop, and that is their right to do so; it protects the value of all those folks who have REAL Cartiers and paid big money for them. Anyone who has a Cartier can 'Google' Cartier website, click on U.S., then find a store near you & call them to discuss your watch. They'll be happy to help. A tune-up for your Cartier costs roughly $65.00 in a Cartier boutique, you should do that if you've bought a used one. Purchase Watch Band Adjusting Sizing Link Removing Battery Changing 14 Pc Tool Kit. The key to doing this yourself and doing it well is to have the correct tools. Don't take the time to see if your tool kit at home has the right tools, go and buy one. You can find one on www.amazon.com relatively cheap. Use the toolkit and its instructions to easily change out links and batteries ect on your own watch.However before attempting to repair your Cartier Santos watch band, set up a workstation where you can comfortably complete your repairs. Perform the watch band repair in a well-lit room of your home on a desk, table or other clean, flat surface. You should always take precautions to protect your Cartier Santos watch face from being scratched or scuffed while you repair its band. A simple way to do this is to spread a soft cloth over your workstation and lay your Cartier Santos face-down on it. Instead of the metal pins which are used to join the links in most metal watch bands, Cartier band links are joined by a hollow tube with a small screw in each end. Look between the links on either side of the link you want to change to locate the small screws that hold it in place. These screws can be removed with an optical-sized flathead screwdriver but you should work carefully to avoid stripping the screws. Keep the removed link screws on a small magnet while you're working on your watch band. The screws are minuscule and very difficult to find if dropped.

Once the screws have been removed, take out the desired watch link and put in the replacement link. Fit the replacement watch link between its neighboring links and reinsert the small screws. Carefully tighten the screws to secure the replacement link in your Cartier Santos watch band. Now the band on your Cartier Santos watch should be as good as new.

First of all, Cartier does not police watches that come into their store. They do not ask for bills of sale, etc., as said by someone here. And an aside, you can have 50 bills of sale, the law is very clear a stolen item that you paid for does not make it yours and if returned to it's rightful owner, you are out the money you paid for it (unless you get the money back from the one who sold it to you, good luck with that!)Secondly, I have the same watch as yours, that I bought on eBay and I brought it to Cartier. They did register the serial number in my name and address, Now maybe if Cartier decided to break their own rules and opened their files to the police who may be looking for your watch in the thousands registered with them because the owner of your watch was the Police Commissioner's wife then there maybe a chance the police would knock at your door if the wife didn't already get paid by her insurance company for the loss!Back to my watch, you may have noticed the links on the back next to the deployment buckle of the watch are not in gold and ss but just stainless steel. The Panthere which now discontinued by Cartier comes with 5 or 6 links on either side of the gold and ss (at least that is what I see on eBay and that is also what I have). Cartier takes the watch and calls you in a couple of weeks to let you know how much it will be cost.Here is where my memory fails..I think I needed 2 or 3 links added. Two prices were offered to me, one for the gold and stainless links which was like $720 or the stainless which was like $175 ( I know it was under two hundred) which I opted for. When I picked it up it was in (no added cost) a really nice red suede like travel bag with Cartier in gold letters on it and 2 gold colored snaps. I have seen these selling on eBay for $30 -50. mcdevito75 here, Best Bet is to look for a small watch repair shop in your area, Most likely another crown and stem will have to be ordered from Cartier.

This will be what is called the end of life indicator.There will be 2 or so weeks of life left in the battery,it still keeps time but will soon stop.Use a quality watchmaker to change the battery and ask about its water seal.

You could take it to a Cartier dealer and they should be able to tell.

If it is a fake they may destroy it though!

It seems unlikely that there is any built in function that would cause the symptoms that you describe but it could be something simple like the hand being loose on its shaft.


Yor local jeweler should be able to fix that sort of thing.
