Garmin NUVI 710 Car GPS Receiver Questions & Answers
Garmin wont power on
Download the GPS drivers from Garmin and install them to your PC. Charge your GPS with a high power usb charger (2A or above) overnight. ZIf you have not done so, download Garmin Express and install it to your PC. Connect your device to your PC. Garmin Express will identify it and allow you to install all the maps and software that the device has a subscription to. If the device still will not power on, you likely have a battery issue. Amazon sells battery kits.
Garmin 710 Doesnt show all the maps
Garmin maps are married to the device they were bought for. You should not be able to take an SD card from one and have it work in another. Another point is, was the 710 already registered to someone else and never deregistered? Have your registered the 710 and does it show up on your Garmin account?
If the 710 is not on your account, Run Garmin Express (download from Garmin). Connect the 710 to your PC. Any maps that the 710 is entitled to will show up in Garmin Express. You may have to buy the map on Garmin if the 710 never had it before.
I accidentally deleted the gmapprom.img file from my nuvi 710. Tried to put it back and was told the is not enough disk space???
It may be because you deleted the file, but it's still in the Recycle Bin (still there taking up space until you clear the Recycle Bin). By your trying to reinstall it, you are essentially adding a second copy and running out of hard disk space. Try double clicking the Recycle Bin and click your image file then click "restore this item". Note however that your almost out of space on your hard drive. Try clearing out the junk. Delete as many file, esp large video and image files, as possible. Then clear your Recycle Bin and then delete all your temporary Internet files. (In Windows XP it's Start, Control Panel, Internet Options and check Delete. When you get the pop up, check everything you can live without). Then defrag your hard drive. In Windows XP, open Explorer (right click Start, choose Explorer), goto My Computer, highlight your drive C, right click, choose Properties, click Tools and then "Defragment Now". Could take over an hour if your drive is near full.Depending on how much you are willing to trash, you could be back in good shape in no time. As a bonus, you should notice your computer running much faster after this.
Nuvi 710 will not start
This is a rare glitch ive come across with some different Garmin GPS's. I just had to send it out to Garmin by calling them up at
1-800-800-1020 tell them your problem, give them the serial number on the GPS i believe is on the bottom or back of the GPS. They will give you all the information needed to get your Nuvi sent to them and have them repair/ replace the faulty unit. The whole process took me about 2-3 days from sending it out to getting my replacement.

Updates for the nuvi 710
- Try to login to their website and then checked if there is a firmware update for your GPS device and for map updates its also on there website. For map updates there will be a payment for the map but for the firmware that will be for free.

Garmin Nuvi will not switch on
If you are using the cigarette light adapter plug-in, you probaly blown a fuse in the plug.
Unscrew the silver / or black tip of plug.... carefully its spring loaded.... check fuse

The connector in the cradle is a high failure item, if you bend it slightly the inside connections break. Cheap fix is to run it off a USB cable to a power adaptor. Or, you can get a replacement cradle for about $35.
