People usually think connecting a printer via wireless is as simple as connecting a PC. However it is not the case. A printer need to communicate with every PC in the same internal network, however each PC will not communicate with other PCs in the same network to protect it private files and also the firewall settings. Next every PC is set to get a dynamic new IP address from the DHCP server everytime when it is powered up and plug into the network. But the printer need to get the same fixed IP address when it is powered up in the LAN.

So the Printer in a LAN need to set up a fixed IP address such that everytime when it is powered up, it has the same IP address that each PC could still get communicate with this Printer. Apart from setting this in the Printer, you also need to reserve this Fixed IP address with your Printer's MAC address in your DHCP server of the router. Otherwise it will get conflict with other PC or device that could have assigned the same fixed IP address. Then you have to setup your Firewall of your PC to let communication to this Printer. Else it will be blocked.

Lastly make sure you install the printer driver correctly in your PC with the same Win OS version such that it could detect the fixed IP address of your printer. Then it should work correctly.

You have to check whether your printer was set up as a network printer or just a one to one printer in your workplace.

If it is a network printer, please check with your IT administrator whether it was set up with a fixed IP or using dynamic IP. After get these details, just set it up same as in your home network.

There may be a issue here that you have not unistall the original program before attempting to reinstall the new program.

If you have done this and still get a problem, you should go direct to Brother's web site to download the latest driver version that corresponds to your Windows OS such as XP, Visita, or Win 7.

Did upgrading your network to BT Infinity involve installing any software on your computer? If so, there could be issues with the
BT Infinity software resetting (erasing) your printer configuration and/or installing a new printer driver or setting a new (invalid) printer as the default printer on the system (thus routing all your printouts to the spool area for a non-functional printer).
To check this:
START> Control Panel> Devices and Printers

Did BT (British Telecom) install FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet), with copper to the home, or did BT install FTTH (Fibre to the Home)?

Try this:

1: Go to start
2: printers and faxes
3: Right click on printer
4: Click on work offline ( this will put the printer online)

You are ready to go.

A possible reset might solve hence remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer driver software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken . It is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the command , can be an issue with ink drying , can also be poor ink cartridge contacts

Recently, I had a similar problem which turned out to be faulty non-original ink tanks (cartridges) - they had a valve which was supposed to allow air to be drawn in as ink was drawn out. It turned out they had "gummed up" and weren't allowing air in, so once a small amount of ink had been drawn out a partial vacuum was created and stopped the flow of ink.
If fitting new, original ink tanks and running the cleaning routines a few times doesn't fix the problem, then this could be several things, some of which may mean your machine will have to be repaired by a Brother agent (probably cost you more than a new one), and/or it's time to bin it.
However, sometimes it's just because the print head, or the pipes that connect the ink tanks to the printhead, have become blocked with dried out ink.
If you search on YouTube, you will find a few videos that show how to clear such blockages - you may not find your exact model number, but many Brother machines use almost identical components to many others so the basic technique will be the same. Also search on Ebay for printer cleaning/head blockage kits - quite a few printers (not just Brother) suffer similar problems and a few businesses have sprung up on EBay that sell kits to help you sort this. They sometimes have links to a video they have produced showing how to use the kit which can give you ideas. Again, your exact model number or even make might not come up but these kits might be adaptable to your machine. Got to be worth a tenner or so before binning it ! Good luck

If the test page from pc or the machine test page doesnt show black, what you can do is to clean the printhead. To do that press the Ink Management button on the control panel and select cleaning press ok then press the up or down arrow key to select Black press ok and press Black Start. After the cleaning process print another test page. Compare the 1st and 2nd test page if it's improving, you may need to do this 3-5 times.

In my experience, what you say might be correct. The small white broken piece could be the arm that comes down and touches the top sheet of paper in the tray, so it knows how much paper is loaded. When there is no arm, it can not recognize that there is paper loaded, thus NO PAPER FEED. I have fixed one of these in the past, but I had 2 identical printers to mix and match parts. I am not sure what it will cost you, you would have to call the repair center and find out. It took me about 2 hours to fix, so I hope a professional could do it faster than that.

Try to clean the print head from the panel of the printer,if the problem persist change the prin head because is clogged.

Unplug the Printer from the wall and PC, now reboot PC, when at desktop next, plug in the printer to the wall, and turn ON, now after a bit, you should be able to go to printers and find your printer, or right click on the printers icon, choose properties, & open, now print a test page to see if you have connectivity too. make sure you driver is installed too. did black ink detect with the ink level status? run print head clean in printer preferences tool maintenance.

Go to the control panel and then into the printers section. Right click the DCp-585cw and select printing preferences. Under the section quality chose fast. This should speed things up.

I have this same problem :(

They are inside the top of the lid where you put the ink cartridges, open up the complete top you will be able to rest it on the latch.

You should see a ledge to the left of the ink this is where you will see the USB and LAN connections
