Pressing hard will not make it do things. This control pad is a capacitance sensor. (or it is on my dv 9700)

There was an issue like the one you describe. there was a new bios released to fix it. The buttons near the power button would fail to work. F.35 or higher bios is the one that should fix it.

You should contact hp and they will walk you through the process. This way if anything happens you will be able to send it with a rma and a ticket number. (not likely to be an issue)

If you want to attempt to do it yourself (without the help of hp) goto the hp site, goto support and drivers, type in the exact model number that is on the box or the bottom of the pc (dv9720us is mine yours will be different obiously)
This will show a selection of operating systems (if your exact model is found) if not there will be a list of models returned.. select yours in that case. Then select the operating system. Scroll down to the bios. Download and run the software follow all instructions included. Failure to do so will make your laptop a doorstop.

After the update your laptop will shutdown.

Turn it on and let it do its thing. Get back to your desktop and see if it fixed it. If not you already know what needs to be done. Send it in for repair.

Hi have you tried viewing any of no longer available vids on another computer as unless its a security/privacy setting under IE, which you should see from a flashing bar above the page your viewing, it sounds like a site problem.

You need to remove the battery, the hard disk and the covers. Then remove screws at the bottom to release the keyboard and the upper casing.

You should be able to use a parallel to usb converter heres one in the link. There hard to find most are usb to parallel but this should work.

Use Firefox or Opera browser and see if it does the same

It should install OK.

Microsoft's compatibility chart says specifically Office 2000 with service pack 3 is fine.

I've had a similar problem once or twice over the years. What you're going to want to do is reinstall the audio driver your computer came with which can be done through the recovery manager. It will ask you if you want to perform a program recovery, select no. Afterwards it willa sk you if you want to perform a driver recover and select yes. scroll down the list of drivers and select the audio one. it will take a few minutes to install and then to restart your computer. your volume should be up and running again. old PCs do that, for many reasons. but no PC told at all just HP. 40 years of PCs ,10000 + models nobody can guess ever. but I do have the answer, in pure generic form. did you buy the PC like that used and bad Wifi. ?

1. the wifi card is missing, as was super common 10+ years ago.
2. someone put in the wrong card, not from HP list
3. HP blacklists (bios blocks) none HP cards (wifi)
4. the card needs a driver to work if not it is dead or 1/2 dead.
5. the PC needs 1 more driver to make the wifi buttons all work , all buttons related, if not they are dead or act odd.
6. The OS is infected, no OS told at all, not one clue nor if upgraded the OS, and not vast drivers are wrong or missing, (classic)

Im sure this this is not the free w10 upgrade, if it was that too kills drivers dead, for sure HP told you this unstated PC will not run W10 and has zero support from HP, on w10 AS YOUR SUPPORT PAGE WILL DISCLOSE TO YOU AT HP.COM

bad news now your bricked it just like miillions did google bios update bricked my PC and cry. why are you here and not at HP.com only they can recover bios. they changed the rules now 10 time. so only they know this, and are pain to deal with.
