i don't know. please open as much as possible to see if there is olde paper still in the machine. if clear, maybe a flashlight would help search for something in feed tray. if you haven't tried yet, shut off printer. unplug all printer wires. reconnect power cord then load a few sheets. push the 'Stop' button a few times. push and hold stop button down for 15 seconds. try to copy something. if it works, reconnect to computer and try printing off something from notepad as a test. if still not OK. Canon may be able to test machine over the internet. also, there may be updates to install for your neighbour.

I frequently had this error message code 2,156,50 with my CANON PIXMA MG3500. The error code tells you there is a USB problem. I re-installed the Software, used new cables, bypassed USB Hubs and and and........ Result: Sometimes it works for the moment then it stops working a few days later but nothing is really reproducible. In the meanwhile I think I found out what it really is. In my case it has nothing, really nothing to do with USB connections (possibly in other situations it has to do with it). To solve it do the following: Shut the Computer down, switch your CANON on and OPEN THE FRONT FLAP. The restart your Computer. As you all know the PIXMAS will not print when the fron flaps are not opened. It seems so that keeping the flaps shut when you just scan (there is no need to insert paper in that situation) error code 2156,50 is initiated forcing scans to stop. First, make sure that the power is on. If needed, open the front cover and open the paper output tray. Open the paper output cover and wait for the ink cartridge carrier to move to the right. The ink access door should open automatically when the cartridges are in position. Push down on the cartridge lock lever until it clicks; the lever forms a U-shape in front of the individual cartridge. The Black cartridge is on the right. Color is on the left. Pull the old cartridge straight out. Prepare the new cartridge and gently push it into the cartridge slot until it touches the back of the slot. Push the cartridge lock lever up until it clicks to lock the cartridge into place. I hope this helps.
