Picture flashing, weak color. whenflashing stops

I have the same problem with a WD 73732. After about an hour fleshtones go blue / purple, and picture flashes. I gutted the set, and ran it on the bench, and found that a sensor on the color wheel (a small external board), acts up when it gets hot. Cooling the board fixed the picture. I'm going to try to find a replacement part, and then make vents in the color wheel cover so it doesn't get so hot in there.

Part of the picture seems to be blocked by

That's exactly what is happening.
There is a "light pipe/tunnel" that is a is basically a mirrored glass conduit between the color wheel and the first lens. It is assembled with a high temp adhesive that holds the four glass sides together.
The adhesive has failed and part of the light tunnel is collapsing blocking a portion of the light energy.
This usually presents as a dark or shaded area along the top, bottom or one or both sides.
solution: the light pipe/tunnel needs to be replaced.
if you take it in for service they will probably replace the entire "DLP engine" (very expensive) If you're not electro mechanically challenged you could do some research and find the part and replace it yourself.
Another possibility is you could re-glue the bad one but this can be rather difficult to do.

Hi, I have a WD 73 that intermittently turns off.

If you don't get any messages on the screen and you have never changed the lamp that would be a good place to start.

My dlp tv randomly shuts off and the timer light

Without pulling out my manual, I'm pretty sure that means that your lamp is getting too hot and it's shutting itself off as a safety measure. The most common cause of this is a lack of ventilation AND dust build up on the filter. Get behind there and take a look and if necessary clean it out.

Someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong on this,

Mitsubishi dlp tv; black and white rectangles on screen

if it's a digital t.v. your signal strength is too low and the "signal-packets" can't be read or downloaded by the t.v. receiver to produce a picture, digital is very fussy on signal quality and strength of signal since the change-over from analog to digital, also any obstructions will deminish signal quality

Mitsubishi 56 inch dlp, screen says tv will turn

Hello!! It might be either that the tv is overheating because of the lack of air, or it may also be your ballast.
First of all I recommend you clean the fans, so the air flow won't be blocked, don't use something that mioght damage some of the boards that are inside, you can buy one of those air cans to clean computers, if that does not work, I recommend you listen closely and notice if there's a clicking sound, if so it might be the ballast.
