Kenmore 73952 Gas Dryer - Page 9 Questions & Answers
How do i get to the back side of the dryer drum
Don't know why you'd want to, but here goes. Take screws out of the lint filter opening on top. Pull top forward slightly to release catches on the front clips and pop top up. 2 screws holding front panel on, one on each side 5/16" I believe. Unplug door switch. Lift front panel off clips at bottom. Go under the drum and pull belt tensioner back to release belt. It should fall over with no tension on it. Use belt to pick up drum and lift out. Then you can see the back of the drum. Again, don't know why you want to, but there you go! LOL
Dryer will not heat
Probably nothing is wrong with the unit mechanicaly & electrically wise. Remove all vent tubing and thoroughly clean all lint out of the exhaust tubes. You will have a load of lint I will expect accumulated inside of yours. Once it is all removed the dryer will heat up back to the normal settings it had before. The moister control sensor will prevent the burner to ignite if the exhaust is plugged up with any obstruction especially lint which is a fire hazard
No heat
If lint is clogged inside the vent tubes that will cause the no heat problem, A moister sensor shuts down the burner for this reason. If the vents are clear the sensor is faulty. If no click is heard upon starting the dryer the spark ignitor is faulty too
Heating problem
If you are smelling gas in the house, stop using the dryer, close the shutoff valve on the gas line behind the dryer & call your local gas co to repair it. It may not be a leak, but a problem with the burner lighting properly, but better safe than sorry.
Will not dry clothes
How old is the dryer? The ceramic ignitor piece may have partially broken off. It gets very brittle over the years. Look for a broken piece laying below where it sits. If you replace it, do not touch the ceramic part of the ignitor or it will not work right. Sometimes it's just as simple as a corroded wire connection. I once worked on a 25 year old Kenmore gas dryer that would not ignite. With the power cord unplugged, I disconnected and reconnected all the wire terminals inside and tried it again it worked perfectly like it was new.
I found a blue wire loose coming from i believe
If you know where the wire came loose from you can reattach it. Many times dryer components have terminals and the wires are connected using connectors, otherwise they were soldered on and you will have to get a soldering iron and some solder and heat the terminal up to get the old piece of wire off and then reattach the other wire by soldering it on (note: you may have to extend the wire so it will reach the terminal which you can do by getting female and male wire connectors). There are many useful sites that can show you how to solder wire if you've never done it before. I've found that <www.youtube.com> is the best site to learn things like that because many times they will show you a visual.
Gas dryer heats up then cools down may heat up again or may not
Hi,
From the symptoms you describe the problem is most likely with the gas valve coils. Since it is heating at least initially this rules out the safety fuses and thermal devices.
The coils are a pretty basic repair. The first image is a breakdown of the valve showing the coils (13 & 14), with the bottom front panel open you can see the valve. The second image below is the parts and part number.
Let me know if you have questions.
Dryer starts aand gets hot for about 10min then
you have bad gas coils.common problem, the coils will work until they heat up then they fail, the coils are located on top of the gas valve, very easy to change, let me know how you make out, call your parts store and give them the model number and they'll give you the coils
I need to know were i find the igniter on my
Thi igniter is on the burner assy located in the bottom of the dryer. This
manual will tell you how to open your dryer. It does not tell you how to change the igniter but it does show how to access the burner. The igniter change out is a matter of unmounting the existing one and unplugging the connector then install the new one. The burner access is through the toe panel discussed in the manual link above.
If you need more assistance would provide your model number please so we both can refer to the correct data.
Thanks for using FixYa,
Kelly
I DO NOT HAVE NATURAL GAS AVAILAABLE WHERE I LIVE/
You can order an LP conversion kit to change it over to propane. Most kits cost between 30 and 60 dollars, and require you to take the drum out of the dryer to access the gas valve for the change over.
