Kenmore 54701 Dehumidifier - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My humidifier blowes hot air
if it's working well it should , unit should be removing all the moisture from air expelling out back , so its dry air
its when coils freeze up then you have a indication of problems
The dehumidifier is blow cold air
Is it collecting water? The air coming out the back top half should be cool/warm. It will be a little warmer at the bottom near the compressor.

Fan not working
You can purchase a new fan motor. But the same problem will probably happen again. I opened the motor, there is a silver (aluminum wrap) around the windings for the motor that needs to be cut. Careful not to cut the motor windings. Inside there is a yellow thermistor or type of temperature sensor connected between the red wire and a motor winding wire. On my motor this was no longer working (in effect it was an open circuit). Once replaced the motor worked fine. this is the second time in about two years that this problem happened. The first time Sears fixed for about $100 and three weeks. This time I saved the money and did the repair myself. I would guess you could buy a new thermistor for about $5.00 from a parts house like digiKey or National Electronics. You will need to know how to use a soldering iron to repair this.

Won`t turn on
Dust. See if you can open the unit and blow some compressed air in the unit, trying not to touch any wires. Smell the unit to detect something that might have burnt after reconecting again after such a long time.
Display says full
Check to see if there is a "reset button" and reset it. Try to unplug, and then replug the power cord. If the display says "full" when it's not, but everything still works, and you can't reset it, you can ignore it, OR, take it apart and see if there is a physical switch that's activated by the level of the water to determine what the display is reading, and try to fix or adjust it.
Dehumidifier Error?
This error code indicates that the problem is most likely a shorted defrost thermistor or possibly a pinched wire going to the thermistor. You will need to replace the sensor assembly - part # 6877A30013L. The Sears website has it listed for 9.99 + shipping. The humidity sensor & defrost thermistor come together in a wiring harness that plugs onto the main circuit board. It is fairly simple to repair. Just remove the front & rear grill & the metal cabinet. Remove the thermistor from the copper tube on the cooling lines; remove the humidity sensor from the front of the evaporator; pull the wire plug off the bucket switch; & remove the small 7 pin plug from the main circuit board inside the metal control box. Reverse procedure to install new sensor assembly.

Unit will not run.
Error code 01 - unit has a sealed system leak; most warranties are 5 years.
Kenmore dehumidifier model#580.54701400 shows on
Assuming you have lowered the humidity extraction level to 35% and it still didn't turn ON. Remove and reinstall the water collection bucket. making sure that it fits squarely into the bucket holder from top to bottom and is making firm contact with the bucket safety removal switch. When installed properly, the bottom of the bucket will not tilt down at the bottom. In addition, while you have the bucket out, check the float valve in the top of the bucket, to make sure it's not stuck in the 'UP' position. Jiggle the arm of the float valve to see that it moves freely.
Hope this helped you to solve the problem and thanks for choosing FixYa.
It is three and a half years old and ices up even
The problem you're having is generally caused by the air intake filter needing to be removed and cleaned and/or the cooling coils need to be cleaned.
I assume you already know how to remove and clean the filter, since you've had the unit for 3 1/2 years, so I won't bore you by addressing that.
The coils can be cleaned with warm water and a mild dish washing detergent using a sponge or rag. Once they have been wiped down, rinsed and dried, apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.
Hope this helped you & thanks for choosing FixYa.
I have a Kenmore 54701 Dehumidifer that quit
Is it not powering at all? Remove cabinet and check glass fuse on power supply board
Is it running but no water?
Check to see if fan is blowing; if not then thermosenser on fan motor blown
Fan and compressor running but no water? Maybe the room is already dry; if not than probably have coolant leak - not worth fixing
Dehum runs ,all lights are
If the fan working , frequently the dirt fill the space betwen the two coil inside ( you have to open the cover and check where the air pass)
