Why is my dehumidifier very noisy?

I would guess that some rubber anti-vibration mounts have aged. If so this may allow the cooling fan to move and grate on the fan housing. It is unusual for the hermetic compressor to give trouble but having just said that, on rare occasions the big-end bearing can fail. This would cause a very obvious knocking noise coming from the compressor. Its just a case of carefully opening up the dehumidifier housing and looking to see what is happening. As an aide-memoire one can tape all the screws to a piece of cardboard adding notes as to where they came from. Take care and good luck!

Runs but does not produce water

(1) Make sure that the fan is turning OK as dust often gums-up the bearings. (2) Make sure that the heat exchangers are not clogged with dust. If the main motor, the so-called pot, is running but no cooling results it could be (A) The refrigerant has been lost. This is an extremely bad fault which makes the unit a basket-case. The reason being that even if a self-piercing filling point is added to recharge the unit with refrigerant, unless the leak is found and fixed the repair will be a nine day wonder. (B) This fault is more likely and the fix is do-able. It is quite likely that the machine is stuck in its defrost cycle. Wiring problems, thermistor problems or relay problems are all possibilities. Some machines use an electric heater on the evaporator (the part that freezes-out moisture from the air) If the heater is stuck on, the evaporator will never become cold enough to work. The more usual defrosting method is Hot Gas Purge and if this is the type used there will be a special electrically operated valve in the refrigeration circuit. Often the default is to defrost-on-start-up so its easy to listen to the valve to see whether it clicks. Good luck!

Full light is on and won't turn off

There is a float in the back, make sure it is dropping all the way. If the rear tank isn't fully inserted it will also prevent the full indicator from resetting. Occasionally hard water deposits will build up, and it's usually just a matter of cycling the float up and down by hand a few times till it loosens up.
