Check for current draw to see if it is within normal parameters. If draw is ok and unit is working then leave it alone. The motor gets cooled by the cold gas returning back into the sealed chamber.
Order the new gasket using your model number- 31165 is not a valid/complete model. Remove the door and lay it flat on the floor, then remove the screws from the upper half of the door perimeter- DO NOT remove all the screws at once or you will be unhappy! Pull the top half of the old gasket away from the door, then put the top half of the new gasket in place and screw it back down. Next, remove the bottom half of the screws and pull the old gasket off, then put the bottom half of the new gasket in place and screw it down. If you try to do it all at once, the door will flex out of plane and won't lay flat when you re-attach it. You might need a hair dryer to soften the gasket if it was deformed during shipping. If you have a newer, press-fit style gasket, just yank it and press the new one in... Door Gasket 241872513
Hello Tom; My name is Peter; I am a retired field service appliance technician. You did not provide a model number which is located on the inside liner of the refrigerator. If the freezer light is the only thing that works, then you are locked into the defrost mode. Every 8-10 hours your unit will shut down for about 10-20 minutes. At this time your defrost heater turns on. Thereafter, your unit restarts to cool. Go into the following website. You will get diagrams and part numbers for your components. Locate your defrost timer. It may be in the lower back right hand side (a metal plate with a through hole). With a flat head screw driver turn the stem one click at a time clockwise to trip the defrost timer. Or, it may be in your control board or elsewhere. If it is in your control board do not panic. Take the part number from the website search the internet (Buy used/remanufacture) and get the board for 40-50% less. If it is the control board, ground yourself by touching bare metal. Static electricity will knock out a control board. Water Filters Lawn Garden Appliance Parts

Sounds like compressor is overheating and taking hours to restart. check by listening for the hum of the compressor shortly after it has reached temperature. also check the condenser is clean and fan working.
If all fans are running, but not compressor You could try to install 3 N 1 start kit, thats might help 50/50. If it will start compressor - be ready for compressor to go out soon. might work for a year.
Which model freezer do you have?
A few possible resets: press and hold the Set and + keys for 5+ seconds. On some models, that will get the freezer out of demo mode. On other models, it's the Set and Down arrow. For a few models, it's the Options and Up arrow. In all cases, it's press and hold both buttons until the unit responds.
I hope you will add a comment with the model of your freezer so that I can determine which set of instructions will work for your unit.
