Kenmore 14.1 cu. ft. / 399 liter Upright Freezer 23414 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Whirlpool freezer cool air but not freezing?
Check the seal first. Then check the freon. If it's R-12, you can go to the auto parts house. They have a bottle with a hose to add freon. You put it in on the "suction" low side with the unit running. you can tell when it has enough by feeling the low line be cold and teh high pressure line is warm to hot
Food in refrigerator keeps freezing
Check if your thermostat is not set on high and lower it. Listen to the sound of your fridge and should ocassionally go to defrost mode which should happen automatically and should be silent for not more than one hour.
Kenmore upright freezer hot on the sides, stop
Without the model number I'm not sure how to answer your question. Does your model have fans that blow warm air on the outside bottom or a front kick plate? What is your model number? Kenmore has model numbers like this example=> 123.3214567 If the fan has a restriction that causes a lack of airflow it can cause the hot Freon liquid that normally flows around the Yoder Loop inside edges of the freezer door to prevent frost buildup to become very hot because the condenser fan is defective or coils are dirty with dust restricting airflow. If the outside is hot you may have a defective condenser fan motor. That will cause the freezer to ger hot. I am here should you want my assistance....

With all this it helps to solve the problem....
Is this freezer manual defrost or frost free?
Well, it would have helped had you included the actual model number, but without that, if you have a fan that blows air from the freezer into the fresh food compartement, its an automatic defrost design, A.K.A frost free.
I have an upright Kenmore
the ken more should be a whirlpool at the bottom of the dispensor look up there are two notches take a screw driver in one notch with the other hand pull down and with the screw driver twist
this will release it
Where is the drain plug
in the back panel of the freezer. remove it and u will see a small hole about 1/2 inch diameter. usually gets clogged with debry. its easier if u defrost the whole unit first. put a towel under the unit for some water
Does not freeze. I hear a click when freezer tries to start,
Hi,
The click that you hear is the compressor trying to start and not being able too.
Either the compressor is bad or possibly the compressor relay or capacitor. It is most likely the compressor in which case it will probably cost more to replace than a new one would cost.
Make sure that before you do anything that you get an estimate in writing or you will soon be racking up bigger bills to fix it than it is worth.
I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!
Thanks for using Fixya!!

Changing light bulb in a 25 year old freezer
Whatever you do, you MUST unplug the freezer before attempting any repairs... there will not be any release buttons, nor any special installations for water safety... also, take care to avoid cutting yourself on the broken glass..
1) did the whole light bulb glass And internals come out, or is the internal part of the bulb still present?
2) verify that the light bulb is really a screw-in appliance bulb -- look into the center of the broken bulb and see if the metal base has internal ridges -- or if the metal base is smooth on the inside...
3) if a screw-in appliance bulb:
3a) if the whole light bulb glass AND internals came out, you will have to probably look very close inside the socket to determine the wall of light bulb base... it should be very thin and flexible and very unlikely you can unscrew it directly -- I've had to take needle-nosed pliers and gently bend and twist until the bulb base came out...
3b) if part of the glass remains as well as the internal stem, I have heard that one could cut a potato in half and then push the internal part of the potato onto the broken end of the bulb and gently unscrew the bulb by twisting the potato... never tried this so I don't know if it will work -- if the internal stem is still intact, I'd use my fingers and try to gently turn it to unscrew the bulb
4) if it has smooth inside wall -- this is probably a bulb with small exterior pins -- the base should be a little more thicker than the screw-in type, so you should be able to push the bulb base in -- a little give in the spring holding it in -- if you feel this give, then turn carefully counterclockwise and it should pop out...
Again, turn off all electrical power to the freezer, Pull the Plug before attempting any repairs...
remove all glass and handle with care...
Freezer runs constantly
not necessarily, is it maintaining temp? all food staying frozen? especially ice creams if stored in there. most newer freezers displace the heat generated while cooling the food through copper lines running through sides of unit, helps to cut down on air temp differences between the inside (0 degrees) and outside temp to prevent moisture and possible condensation causing premature rusting of unit
Freezer is running constantly and sides and top are hot.
first whirlpool makes a good product as far as the sides being hot good sign the condensing coils are in the sides are supposed to be hot worry if its running and they are cold then not working right ok as far as running modern units useing 134a do have long run times but are not using but same enegry as 100watt light bulb otay
