We bought a Mongoose SR

Sports Store? Do they also sell fishing tackle, skis and appliances? Take it back and buy a real bike at a real Bicycle Shop.

It will be fully functional and fitted to your son before you take it home and in a month or so they'll probably re-tune the shifting and everything for free.

I dont know how to

I am not very familiar with pegs, but I presume that you just remove the bolts inside the pegs. Use a wrachet with an extension. The nut should be 5/8 inch, or in metric 15 mm. They are the same. The pegs should then slide off. Replace the nuts because they hold the wheels on. If I was wrong about something give your local bike shop a call and ask them for advice or even bring it to them.

When I shift it's not

If it used to work and the cables are new then the cabels streached as normal you need derailer adjustments. If you have had it a while, and recently fell then you bent your derailer hanger take it to a bike shop to be straitened by a pro.. If it is a new bike and never worked at all then you need some derailer adjustments. You can adjust your derailer your self IF you know what you are doing. Otherwise go to a bike shop and have them do it. .

Get the rim / tire of the frame. Let all the air out of the tube, Using two flat blade screw drivers, put them between the rim and tire about 3 inches apart, (be careful not to puncture the tube) Pry the tire over the rim, leave one in place and move the other about 3 more inches and pry the tire over the rim again, keep moving around the rim until the side is off. Metal chains and gears will not fail to engage simply because they're slippery. Look closely at how they mesh. Maybe the teeth are worn, or the chain or both.

Old bike. everything is

Spray WD40 or other penetrating oil on all moving parts. If you get a syringe from a pharmacy you can put oil into it an squirt it down the shifter and brake cable sleeves. If any moving parts are still stiff, leave the bike for a day to allow the oil to soak and penetrate. Try not to get any oil on the brake pads or rims.

Hello my name is Wayne

There is probably not a single thing on that bike that is specific to Mongoose. In other words, every adjustment and component on it is in accordance with the third-party manufacturer's specs.

Find one of their generic manuals here...

Deralleur and brake cables will stretch or break-in with initial use and always require some tweaking early on. Some shops build that expected tune-up into their sales offering.

Bought a 26" Mongoose Detour

For the gear problem.Find the shifter.Use a pair of pliers and loosen the nut where the cable is passing through the shifter. Now withe the pliers pull the cable tight.Very tight.Spray the shifter with WD-40.That should fix it.

For the front rim, tighten all the spokes.Pliers will work, but a spoke too; will make the job faster.
