It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARRAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Our Microwave Elite Model comes

Hi,

This is a bad error. You could try to disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then turn it on. If the problem persists, then you need to replace the control board.

The F9 error code indicates an inverter failure. If you continue to receive the F9 error code after unplugging the unit for 5 minutes, the control system assembly may need to be replaced. Note : Microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair.

I have a Kenmore microwave model 721.61820100 and

The part you need is the turntable support. Sears shows the part on their parts site, and here's another source that I use. The support just slides onto the motor shaft through the hole in the bottom of the oven.

Power to kenmore elite microwave 80833500 but

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

F-9 Error code

The F9 error code indicates a failed inverter. If resetting the unit does not help you will need to have the inverter & harness checked.

This can sometimes by caused by a power surge or glitch through the electrical lines.
You can sometimes clear this fault by completely unplugging the microwave for 1 minute.
Plug it back in and see if the fault code returns.
If it does, then you have an internal component failure that will need to be serviced by a technician.
Microwaves must be serviced by technicians due to the inherent dangers involved in repairing these appliances.
Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even though the unit is completely unplugged.
A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal component repair.

It does not ALWAYS indicate a inverter control board problem however in other brands/models.
LG's service manual (for an example) suggests the f-9 code could be due to line voltage, magnetron, inverter module, "Relay2", or a loose connection between door/magnetron/control pcb.
Other indications might help narrow down these choices before having to pull out your multimeter and crack open the microwave case.
For example, if the microwave works, but heats slowly, then the troubleshooting manual narrows your choices down to magnetron or line voltage problems, and pretty much rules out the other possibilities.

Trying to change a fuse on microwave.

It may be the fuse or the thermal cutout / thermostat associated with the magnetron.

You say you have the service manual? If you mean the folded-up "mini-manual" that should show the relative locations of the parts in a perspective view.

Also, you can find exploded views at the Sears parts site.

Looking at the "interior parts ii" exploded view here, it shows the fuse (drawing reference # 5001) on the small RF noise filter board located on top of the air duct assembly.

You'll need to remove the oven from the wall to get to it for testing & replacement.

The installation instructions are handy to pull the oven from the wall.

If you've misplaced yours, the Sears site may have them free.

You can just enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.

On the resulting page, look to the right for the blue "View manuals" button. Click there.

That Sears-related site has many free manuals. While the manuals they list there are all free, they may ask you to register.

Many times, the owner's manual will have the installation instructions inside.

If yours is not listed there for free, you would have to order it through the
Sears parts site.

Rotating ring/ Glide tray comes off the track -Elite Model 80803

Take your round glass tray and plastic three wheeled hoop to a local Sears store, open up the microwaves on display, find the one that is still using something similar, deftly trade out yours for theirs. The new wheeled plastic hoop wheels are slightly bigger and the glass tray raised guides are a bit longer, since the switch no problems like I had. Don't get caught. They do not have those parts for sale at the local Sears store.

Light no longer works

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Turnaround glass tray problem

Sometimes they get heated up and bend up in the middle so they don't make good contact with the coupler. The way I fix this is to heat the support over a stove flame, then place a heavy weight on it so it holds the legs up in place a bit until it cools. Here it is step by step: 1. Apply heat at points where each legs meet the hub (stove flame) 2. Place end of each leg on an object so that the bottom of the hub is held up about 1/8" off the work surface. 3. Place heavy object on hub so the bottom touches the work surface. 4. Let it cool. 5. Test it. 6. If it still does not work, increase the height of objects in step two.
