Grain mill stops turning
Will it grind any wheat? I had a similar problem with the wheat overwelming the drive system and had to use smaller amounts of wheat to keep the system grinding. Do you have the feeder attached? I couldn't just load it up but had to feed a little at a time. Hope it helps. Favorable comments are apprieciated.

Power switch turns on by itself
Bring the mixer to a place that services these appliances. They will have to replace the switch. This is common on appliances. Jerry G.

Beater hits side of bowl
There may be a few problems that are occurring here. However, in the past I have seen that the bowl has become misshapen after repeated use and normal wear and tear. Some times if the bowl isn't too bent you can re shape it by rolling it on the floor or a counter. Hope this helps!!Thanks. Grant

When turned on gear 1 mixer lately slipped to gear
You need to adjust the mixer speeds. Obtain a copy of the KSM5 Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com. Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from the Control Plate. All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must all be adjusted. 1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.
For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 2

Hi. All of you have the same problem. The electronic speed control board needs to be replaced. This board can be installed without much trouble. The board is modular, remove the old board and install the new one. The wiring is connected by a modular plug.

Hi, this is a relatively simple one, the speed controller electronics module is going faulty, short circuit, when under load. This needs to be replaced to restore functionality.

Above are the spare parts top, and the Kitchenaid website, if you wish to DIY, then you really need to obtain a service manual, and then order the controller board and replace it.
If you do not wish to DIY, usually the manufacturers rates are very reasonable, and the job gets expertly done with original parts, it's usually a good way to go, and most likely cheaper than a new one?

Turned off while mixing roll dough
There are two devices that protect against overheating; one temporary, a bimetal switch, and another that is a thermal fuse which once opened, doesn't reset.
For safety your mixer may have both or it could just be another failed Chinese bimetal switch.
These poorly made devices fail after as few as a few hundred cycles of off/on.
Drip coffee makers are terrible in this respect and the devices are frequently welded to leads rather than soldered because of the heat to which they are exposed.
They are easily checked for continuity with even the most primative multimeter.

Mixer won't shut off
Sounds as though the switch has shorted? Or the speed controller has failed ON. You could try a replacement if one can be had?
