Philips Senseo HD-7810 Coffee Maker - Page 7 Questions & Answers
HOW DO I DESCALE MY SENSEO?
run vinegar thru it... go buy a gallon of it... and run a couple cups thru it...
then use filtered water or distilled water to flush that vinegar out...
then go buy yourself a Brita Pitcher... and use that... cheaper then using distilled water...

Not sure what you mean by 'locks up', but if the slow flash changes into a steady light in the power button, 2 situations can occur in your case:
- when nothing happens at all when you press one of the buttons: the button or the PCB inside the Senseo have failed.
- when the power light starts slow flashing again: the pump motor has most likely died.
Either case requires contact with a repair shop . .
Hi, while making coffee, I forgot to put a cup in
Usually, overflowing won't harm the machine in any way; it's built for that. Even if liquid somehow would get into the device, it will remain fully functional in 99% of the cases once it's fully dried again.
Opening the bottom will void any warranty you may still have. If a Senseo doesn't do anything please make sure it's plugged into a working wall socket (check the wall socket using another applicance). Wall socket OK, but still no joy? The internal fuse may have blown - but it's recommended you leave repairs to a qualified mechanic.
Turned machine on this am,power light came on for
Try another wall socket, and fumble a little with the wire - it may have been damaged. If you can notice a relation between moving the wire and the Senseo switching on and off, the wire should be replaced.
Senseo won't turn on after running vinegar thru it to clean.
If it doesn't respond at all then make sure the plug is in the wall socket and the wire isn't damaged. If it's plugged in properly, the wire is intact and other electrical appliances work OK when plugged into that same wall socket, the macine will need some tender love and care from a mechanic.
How do I prime an old machine that's been sitting
De-mothballing a Senseo check-list:
- Get some citric acid & prepare it as prescribed,
- Fill the Senseo's reservoir with the citric acid suspension,
- Place a large bowl underneath the coffee outlet,
- Press and hold both small buttons, and
- Press the Power button.
The citric acid suspension will now be pumped through the machine, into the bowl. To stop the rinsing, press the Power button again. I suggest you repeat this a few times, don't forget to swap the pad holders somewhere in between so they both get some suspension as well.
After that, repeat the procedure a few times with fresh water only to get rid of any citric acid in the machine - it will make a poor cup of coffee if you forget that step!
Hello,
Hope you guys can help me on this one:
My
Either the little magnet in the reservoir is stuck (does it float when you slowly fill up the reservoir?), or the corresponding Reed relais doesn't properly respond to the magnets presence. The latter most likely requires technical attention.
The machine doesnt delivery a whole cup. It
You can try to rinse it internally with citric acid - don't forget to soak the pad holders in the acid as well. There may have been a buildup of calcium inside various parts of the machine.
Some machines can be adjusted, but that always requires opening it up.
Lastly, the pump may have failed. In that case it's probably a write-off since a new pump will probably cost as much as a new Senseo . .
I turn the machine on
Do you see a fast or a slow blink? If you see:
- A fast blink: the machine has encountered some condition that prohibits it from engaging the heater element. This could be a low water level detection (the float being in the high position doesn't mean the Reed relais is also triggered!), some other malfunction or a power problem. To rule out the latter, plug the Senseo into another wall socket, preferrably another electric group.
- A slow blink: your Senseo is feeling happy and is unaware of a problem. This may point to a defective heater element. If you do hear the rumbling noise of water being heated, it's most likely the temperature sensor - both are cases for the repair shop.
Machine does not go to ready mode. Stays flashing
There's a thermal sensor which decides when the preset temperature has been reached and when the slow flashing will stop. If you do hear the rumbling noise while the slow flash is visible, the heating element is OK and so the sensor needs attention. If you do not hear that noise, the heating element may have died. Either way a repair shop issue, unless you're not afraid to do some parts replacing yourself!
I have the Senseo Latte 7850 machine. Seems to
If you don't have the machine all that long I'd make use of the warranty. Opening it yourself will void the warranty . .
Some makes and models do have controls on the PCB which allow for water temperature adjustment and cup filling level, but you'd need to open the machine to get to them.
When i switch on the machine, the water spills
A number of options here:
- The seal is damaged or malformed. It should be flexible, round and bent inward without cracks or tears,
- The coffee pad has come between the seal and its seat. Make sure the pad is centered properly before closing the lid,
- The pad holder is bent or warped. Replace it or experiment with the other one you have.
Machine doesn't deliver a whole
Try soaking the pad holders in hot water for a while; they may have some residual calcium buildup. Also rinsing the Senseo with citric acid (see manual) could work for you!
