normally you look for the clock ot watch icon. Pressing it once will give you the option for 24 hours setting. Press it twice and it will give you the opportunity to set to 12 hours setting. Using the no. keypad, punch in the time and then repress the clock icon again.

Boiling water caused large "Pop" sound/microwave not working now
I would guess that the boiling water may not have been the cause ...
If you are lucky ... try this first:
Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off (if it is a built in unit). Wait an hour and then repower.
Odds are that will not clear things up ... but it is easy to try. Probably one of the electronic internals broke.
A number of different internal component problems could cause this heating failure in the microwave. It could be the magnetron, the high voltage transformer, the PC board, the diode, and the capacitor. This type of problem will need to be diagnosed and repaired by a service technician. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. This type of repair is not something that you want to try to do yourself. Internal capacitors in the microwave can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test should be performed on the unit using proper testing equipment following any internal component repair.

Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed
Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.
If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here:
http://tinyurl.com/yzjozkWe also have this full service manual at our site:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdfNormally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I put a metal pan
Yes it is safe to continue using the Microwave as long as the integrity of the glass is not compromised and the pitted marks do not exceed 1/4 inch. The RFwave generated by the magnetron is a pretty wide RF wave beam.
If your really concerned you can take the unit to any appliance service center and ask that they perform an RF leakage test. There is really no other way to know if your leakage is within acceptable limits. I can tell you from personal experience that the ony microwave I ever saw demonstrated excessive leakage had either been dropped and had hinge or latch damage.
If your really worried about it and can not get to a service center you can do this test:
- Wrap a tall empty glass with a sheet of aluminum foil and place it about 3 inches away from the microwave in front of the area you where noticed the pitting.
- Run the microwave with a GLASS filled with water of equal size for 1 minute.
- Stand back 3 to 4 feet and watch for any signs of a spark on the aluminum foil.
- As soon as the microwave shuts off check the dry foil wrapped glass for any signs of heat.
(No heat.... no problem. Sparks or Heat = repair time.)
Thanks for choosing FixYa.

The bulbs under the microwave for the work space do not work.
On a sharp R-1480, they use a solid state IC on the control board to switch the night/work lights on and off. These IC's can burn up and quit working, or short out and not turn the lights off. I replaced several of these boards close to twenty years ago but I never saw one that was anywhere near close to being a fire hazard. I'm sure that these boards are no longer available.....

Sharp Carousel Microwave door won't open, button broke
Take it to a Discount Appliance or Used Appliance store and have them repair it. There they will have the parts that are used and cheaper to repair than hiring an Appliance Service Technician.
Option 2
Take the microwave apart and go to www.searpartsdirect.com and type in your model number and find the broken part and part number. Then order the part through ApplianceZone.com or ApliancePartsPro.com. Later when parts arrive at your door... install theparts yourself and save money!

My Sharp Carosel volume got really quiet. Is there an easy fix?
If you are referring to the beep when you press any function, the beeper on the board may have failed.
The two other sounds are :i. there is a fan that comes on when start is pressed and, ii. the other sound is a heavy hum also when start is pressed. This comes from the transformer and maybe the magnetron tube. If you are not getting these sounds then troubleshoot these areas, careful though, the output voltage from the transformer is about 1.5kv

Lost all power
Door switch is bad or a fuse blew out inside the microwave cover housing. Switch is most common.

Not working
Some of your story seems impossible. Closed doors do not cause anything. Aging capacitors can cause fuses to go. They also stabilize the magnetron. My bet is the capacitor blew. I have no idea why the fan doesn't work, once the cabinet is open it will become obvious.
