Last night it started making a funny noise and it

HAD SAME ISSUE 6 YEARS AGO.

ITS A MAJOR PART AND ITS NOT SAFE IN THAT STATE.

IT JUST SLIPS MY MIND AS TO WHAT IT IS CALLED.

UNPLUG IT.

CALL A REPAIR SHOP.

TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED, TELL THEM TO QUOTE A PRICE.

KEEP IN MIND THAT A NEW MICROWAVE IS PRETTY CHEAP THESE DAYS.

GOOD LUCK.

Can you glue back a microwave door, if the edges

no, glues are no good in microwaves due to high temperatures, may give off toxic fumes etc. you need new door fittings which isnt easy to fit, take to approved dealer, he will also test for leakage out side the door.

Sharp Carousel R-1480 doesn't heat

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions (similar to these) are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(even if the magnetron passes these tests, it can still be bad. If you have high voltage and the diode is good, assume the magnetron is bad)

You would have to remove it from the wall to replace the magnetron, take off the outside cover, discharge the capacitor, then disconnect the magnetron's wires and mounting nuts.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it for you here.

(Our site is down as I write this, but rest assured it is there.)

You can order parts for this brand from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Most manufacturers can offer a "drop-in" replacement if you tell them your model number. Call Sharp toll free at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277).

Spring for the door latch is broken

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Built in Microwave won't turn off!

Your machine is probably burned up by now ... but I will try to help you.

I suspect your door safety interlock switches are selded in the closed position. Remove the cover and look on the right hand side for these small switches. Unplug the device and be mindful there is 25,000 or more volts waiting to get you in the silver thing to the back side. Check the switches with a ohm meter. There is a common terminal, a normally open terminal and a normally closed terminal. My guess is one or both switches are going to read closed (short)

Door will not stay closed

It sounds like the latch or strike is loose. Try to tighten it up. You may have to replace the switch if it is damaged.

Squeaky carousel

It can be oiled with something akin to Pam (cooking oil spray). You don't want petroleum products in your oven -- it'd take forever to get the fumes out.

I'd try first just spraying some under the turntable as far back toward the center as you can get it -- run oven -- spray some more, etc., etc.

I NEED TO REPLACE PART 83242. HOW DO I REMOVE

I do not know what part #83242 is. A search of several reliable parts web sources, yielded no positive results. So, I'm guessing this may be a door handle(?). If so, to access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you need to remove the entire door, simply open it all the way and lift at the hinges. The door will lift off the hinge mounts. You may wish to remove the door for an easier means of working on it. Especially, if the microwave is mounted above your range.

If you have questions, please let me know. If this is not what you are needing assistance with, please post back with the name of the part you are trying to replace. I hope you find this information helpful.

Sharp R990C(s) Carousel Convection microwave cuts

Hi,

As we are not there we can only make intelligent guess.I have seen this issue with most of the ovens. To be really honest, i have not got a same solution for every customer.

I can highlight the main reasons :-

1. In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron. If this being the case, you need to call sharp. This is tech's work. No way you could do it yourself. Sorry to be precise, but that's the solution.

2. Few people have find an issue with Microswitch. Either they are bad or not engaging properly.

The first REASON i mentioned is the most common and 90% people have the same problem.

Hope i helped you.

DO RATE THE SOLUTION.

Thanks for using "Fixya".
