No Heat

The microwave sends out a strong radio frequency burst that vibrates the water molecules in your food and causes them to heat through friction. No heat means no rays..means a new microwave! Cheaper than fixing..go to Craigs list

Smoke and burning plastic smell in microwave oven

Burning plastic, not food? A component has overheated badly then, with a plastic case. The main suspect would be the high voltage capacitor in the magnetron supply. This is cheap and easily replaced ONLY IF you know what you are doing and can diagnose the fault. If you don't then DO NOT take the case off the unit as fatal voltages can be present inside even if the unit is unplugged. I'd just buy another, as they are generally uneconomical to have repaired by a service tech.

Wrecking for magnets

If the oven has not run for a few minutes and is not plugged in, there is very little chance that the high voltage capacitor has any charge stored on it.If you're still concerned about getting a zap that might make you get a cut when you pull back your hand on the sharp metal inside the microwave, you can discharge the capacitor. Here's how.The magnets are in the magnetron.Other questions? See the FAQ here. We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Can not open the door in microwave the release

Do not pry the door open since there is an easier remedy which will lead you in the direction that you need to fix your problem. Take the cover off after you disconnect the power to it. Once you have taken the cover off (only a few screws) you will be able to see the two latches that hold the door closed and the link that opens both of them. You can just lift both latches at the same time and it will open. After you have done that take a good look and press in on the open door button and you will see where you have the problem of the door hanging. That button should push a linkage that pushes up on both latches at once to open the door. It is spring loaded so that it comes back down so that when you close the door it will hold the door close. You need to take the cover off the microwave so that you can pull both of the latches that hold the door closed up. When you push the button in it engages a linkage that pushes both taches up at the same time to open the door. It is springloaded and will come back down during normal operation to hold the door closed when you close it again. That area is where your problem is. By looking at what happens when you press the open door button you should be able to readily see where the problem lies in that linkage
