Water heater heats water, but not long enough or

The first thing I would do is turn up temp control on gas valve.Control is located on front of gas valve at the bottom front of heater. They usually have a indicator dial on front with an arrow pointing direction.Turn dial to higher setting when burner is not on and this should turn burner on and provide hotter water. The control is normally turned clockwise to increase temperature. If control is already turned all the way up then water heater may need to be replaced.Depending on water quality in your area heater may have a large amount of mineral build up and it may not be capable of producing enough or hot enough water. If this the case all I can suggest is to try to drain tank and flush some of the deposits out. If you have installation manual it will give you instructions on how to do this. If not see if you have working shut off valve on cold water line ,if it works shut it off and connect drain hose to drain valve on bottom right side of gas valve. Put hose to floor drain or sump basin if you have one. Turn control knob on top of gas valve from on to pilot, this will leave pilot light on but prevent burner from working while draining. Open drain valve ,flow rate may be slow or not at all. Open hot water side of some faucet to provide air to help draining. You may try opening water supply valve to heater a few times to aid in draining. If you can get it to drain, shut drain valve off when done, turn cold water supply back on and shut off hot water outlet. Then when tank is full open hot water vavle to bleed air out of heater and piping. Turn control knob on top of gas valve back to on position. This should bring burner back on .It will take about 1/2 hour to heat. If you can't get it to drain or this doesn't help you might consider getting a new 40 gallon heater. Hope this helps. Thanks

My reliance water heater pilot goes out every time

You need to extend the flue vent 2 feet above the roof ridge-line. This will help eliminate the low pressure suction on the pilot light.

Are all 25VS FV sensors equivalent?

I personally wouldn't replace a safety device (placed there by lawyers, lawsuits and the all knowing government) with anything other than OEM. While it's very likely that one manufacturers flammable vapor sensor may interchange on another brand of tank, I think it's highly unlikely that EVERY manufacturers sensor will work on every other brand of tank

Reliance propane water heater. Water too hot, even at lowest setting. Reliance sent new thermostat, same thing! Now they tell me it's because we don't use enough hot water! Is it possible?

The thermostat controls the water temp regardless of how much you use . Not using hot water the heater will cut in just to keep temp up to setting .

MY RELIANCE WATER HEATER SHUTS OFF AND I HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE RESET BUTTON. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

Why Does My Electric Water Heater Reset Button Keep Tripping? So the red reset button on your electric water heater keeps popping out and needing to be reset. Here's the most likely problem: The water in your water heater is getting too hot. When the water temperature in your water heater exceeds 180°, the red reset button (also known as the high-limit switch) trips. This tripping protects you from getting scalded or burned when using hot water in your home. OK, but then what's causing the water in your water heater to get so hot? The most likely cause is a bad thermostat. How a bad thermostat causes your water heater reset button to trip Electric water heaters have a lower and upper thermostat-one for each heating element. The thermostats are responsible for controlling the heating elements. When the water has cooled off, the thermostats kick on the heating elements to heat the water. And once the water has reached your desired temperature, the thermostats shut off the heating element. (This is very similar to the way your heating and air conditioning thermostat controls your home HVAC system.) But these thermostats can go bad. When they do, they sometimes get stuck in the "on" position. This means that that the heating element continues to heat your water, eventually causing the high-limit switch to trip. The fix: The bad thermostat needs to be replaced. A plumber can use a multimeter to test the thermostats and find out which one is bad. Other problems that can cause your high-limit switch to trip While a bad thermostat is the most common reason your water heater's reset button may trip, it's not the only one. Other common causes include:
  • A shorted heating element-It may be that the thermostat is working just fine and shutting off the heating element. But a short in the element is causing it to continue to heat your water.
  • Loose wiring-A loose wire in the water heater can generate heat that can cause the high-limit switch to trip.
  • Bad high-limit switch-The switch itself may be malfunctioning and tripping when it shouldn't be.
