If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Unfortunately after formatting your SD card there is no way to recover the photos.

You didn't specify the type of memory card, so I'm going to assume it's either an SD or an SDHC card.SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. You should format the SD card first using your Pentax D-100. Go to setup then choose Format.

Asahi Pentax 35mm cameras are not valuable....most can be purchased on ebay and other similar sites for under $100.

Possibly, please see this article on recovery software (all listed in the article are freeware).

I think that you're using a Mac: on this OS you have to empty the recycle bin when the memory card is plugged in, if this doesn't work, the simplest way is to format the card!
