the "sensor" (little white hard material disc) works in conjuction with the heating element Ok thats a no brainer, however usually it is the heating element failure (lloks like a big U thing on bottom of hot plate) that kills the sensor. Both have to be replaced, however, are they easy to find and worth the cost of parts and time to repair?? Or just buy another one. The life expectancy is aproxiamate 500 or less pots...

Many times when a coffee machine is not working properly, it needs to be cleaned. Pour 1/2 & 1/2 White vinegar and water into machine as if you making the coffee, and turn machine on. It make two treatments t clean out the machine. You can then use some baking soda in water to neutrlize the vinigar.

All coffee makers have a 'thermal fuse' inside to prevent a melt-down of the heating element in case the controller fails.These fuses are made (probably exclusively) in China and are the most common failure in these machines.Unfortunately, they are welded onto one end of the heating element meaning that to get your machine working again, the heating element (including the fuse) will have to be replaced.Since this is such a common ill, West Bend may have a recall on them (many other manufacturers do) or offer a reduced price repair.

I purchased a 55120 coffee and espresso combo machine and it did not have the manual with it.

Remove the on/off switch and check with an Ohm Meter for continuity. If one is not available run a jumper wire from each wire to the switch. It may work then. If so the switch is bad. If not the resistor inside the circuitry is most likely the problem
