correct then it is also possible that the new oil freed up some engine sludge and the oil pump pick-up is now being blocked so the pump is being starved for oil...especially if this is the 2.7L engine

oil pressure gage needs replacing? doesn't seem your pump should be bad after only 7 years unless you have triple the standard yearly mileage. I would find the oil pressure sending unit and replace it
