to the fact that this is what is called an "Interference" design engine, this means when the valve timing is off the valves hit the pistons. So if you can do a valve job then yes you can do the repair

timing belt drives the water pump, not bad idea to also replace, while in there, this is an interference engine where if timing belt fails, will cause piston to valve damage.Hope this was very helpful
