Shore power/ttery switch-every dead?

Shore power on/battery switch off. come back no power and battery drained completely to charge house batteries disconnect must be on

  • Greg Scott

You must have the battery disconnect switch on (closed) to have any 12VDC function inside your unit. If properly wired, the AC comes into your unit via shore power, goes through shore disconnect box, then to the power inverter [AC => DC], then through the battery disconnect switch before splitting to the batteries and power distribution block (fuse panel). Depending on your unit, there may not be a shore disconnect box. Regardless, the only times you should have the battery switch off (open) is when you have your unit on storage or when performing service/maintenance (to prevent getting shocked). If you leave the battery disconnect switch on while on storage, chances are the batteries will get drained. While you are going over this, consider taking the batteries to a store that can test them to make sure the batteries are not totally dead and cannot be charged. If that is the case, time to buy new batteries.

Your question and facts are a bit terse. Usually when shore power is present you can leave both house and chassis batteries connected so they are charged/maintained by your charger/converter. Using a multimeter, test all parts of the 12v circuits to be sure the converter/charger is outputting at least 13v to house and chassis batteries.

2006 Holiday Rambler Presidential won't run 12 volt system without shore power. Battery good. Battery switch good. Auto reset breakers good.

don't know the system, but it should be easy enough to trace it with a simple voltmeter. I would suspect the battery connections first. A bad connection could allow the battery to charge and the converter could provide enough power, but when off, the voltage drop across the battery terminal could be too much.
Without shore power, turn something on that will draw a few amps and measure the 12V starting on the battery connection, not the battery terminals. Then compare it to a measurement on the terminals. If there is any diff, remove the connectors, clean and lub and replace. From there, just follow the wiring.

Connect disconnect battery knob located above monitoring panel as you enter 2015 Rockwood Signature lite 8314 bss, should it be pushed in or pulled out Thank you

Why not turn on something on that battery circuit and then try the switch in either position? The battery systems (chassis and house) are generally left ON when using the RV or connected to shore power. If in storage without shore power, then the disconnect switches will reduce battery drain.

Aux batteries are charged but do not power anything when unplugged from shore power. checked all breakers and fuses. I replaced the power converter. I have a 2010 Tioga, 32'. What can I try next?

call in a electrician as the automatic controller that separates battery power from shore power is not reverting back to battery power when the lead is disconnected

Replaced coach batteries and still not working

There is a relay that operates when you hook up to shore power that switches from battery power to converter power. It also charges the batteries. If you do not have battery power then suspect a faulty relay. It is located inside the power converter.

2014 crossroads rv battery operations will not work battery is sound

Preston, You may have a battery disconnect on your Crossroads. Look for a round red rotating type switch usually near the batteries. Trace the positive lead from your batteries to look for it. It is possible that it is located inside on a control panel. Check to see if it is in the on (or both) position. Do you have any 12V lights when you are plugged into shore power?

HAVE 110 WHEN PLUGGED IN OR ON GEN BUT HAVE LOST 12V WHEN UNPLUGGED OR GEN OFF.

Do you have 12v when plugged in or on generator? If you do, then it's likely 1) a fuse or breaker for the converter, or 2) the converter is dead. Is your battery good? Try using taking the battery out and using to crank your car or truck. If that works, look at the fuse or breaker for your converter or your converter may be dead. If the batter doesn't work, do the opposite and put your car/truck battery in your RV and see if your 12v works -- if it doesn't, then check your converter fuse/breaker or it may be dead; if it does, then your battery is terminally (pun) dead.

2012 Thor Challenger 36FD; Auxiliary batteries went dead, tv recepticals and generation not kicking on. Charged batteries, but no change. Is there a reset button or maybe a fuse that I might need to...

If the unit has a transfer switch that switched between generator and shore power you need to look at that since nothing is working with the unit plugged into shore power. There may also bee a few battery disconnect switches close to the batteries. In that system there should also be a few inline circuit breakers. If they have tripped they will need to be reset. To determine if they have tripped you will need to look at the circuit breaker and see if there is a small black lever hanging down. If there is, slide it back up and it will lock back into place and should restore power. Without actually seeing the coach and the power configuration it is difficult to determine exactly the problem. Hope this helps.

Battery/elecrtic

You might unhook the battery and with the camper plugged in to shore power the 12v lights should work. If not check the breaker that goes to the inverter. If that is not tripped then check the power output at the converter. I would expect the inverter is shot. I replaced the one on my Jaco two years ago with (Progressive Dynamics 60 Amp Power Converter with Charge Wizard and the remote pendant)
